TLDR: I'm looking for the 3rd gen equivalent part numbers that I've listed below for 2nd gen. Or, maybe its the same part numbers?

I've got this issue on my 2018 DCSB and wondering if any other 3rd gen owners do too?

Door hardware that rusts and causes these streaks:

I've found the same issue with 2nd gen owners. I've even found the same issue on other model Toyota's, even .

Based on the 2nd gen link above and referenced hardware, I've purchased the nut, bolt and bush. Here are the part numbers:

I've called several Toyota dealer parts departments, they say I need to buy the entire door handle assembly at $100 plus for 3rd gen. I'm having a hard time believing that. I'm thinking this hardware did not change on 3rd gen from 2nd gen.

Has anyone done this fix on a 3rd gen and can confirm these parts are the same please and thank you? before I start taking things apart.

If they are different, can the nut, bolt and bush be purchased separately? Any help greatly appreciated.

Did you try IronX and get it cleaned out then seal the current parts?

Are your positive it's the handle? I would suspect it is door, not handle.

I did not, based on others I've seen the bolt/screw should be replaced and has extreme rot. I'd rather go straight to new parts. I'll look to IronX for the paint work.

It is the hardware within the handle as shown in the 2nd gen link.

Are you sure it isn't a stain from lubricant? I see this on all my vehicles after lots of rain.

Is this a common issue in the rust belt? I have a 2020 Super White and have some exposure to salted roads. I wouldn't expect this.

Mine is a white 2022 and looks similar to the above photo. While I don't live in what is considered the "rust belt", I am in SLC where UDOT has access to nearly limitless supplies of salt and they aren't afraid to use it. This year they have really upped the ante with the liquid chemicals in addition to rock salt. I treated my frame, undercarriage, and suspension components with a heavy application of cosmoline which is holding up well to half a dozen pressure washes this winter. I'll take a closer look as to whether the stains on the door is rust or lubricant in my case.

Possibly, I'll know for sure when it is disassembled.

I live in a cold and wet climate and have not seen this. Before you throw parts at it, I suggest you investigate the source of the stain. You could remove the handle and inspect what’s underneath. My first guess is a faulty seal allowing moisture to get inside where unprotected steel parts reside.

I'm in the rust belt, northern WI, and cabin in U.P. MI. Haven't had/heard/seen this problem before, or on tacoma around here. Tons of salt and brine used around here. Not on .y 2nd gen, nor my 3rd gen, or anyone of else's.

    I don't have a 3rd Gen. but.
Go to dealer and tell them that inside hardware in handle is inferior and rusting and that should not be if good quality product was used.
    Good luck.

Mine stains/streaks came off with a rag, warm water, and some wax. Likely lubricant for now.

I have the same issue on one of my doors. It was because of a rusty bolt/screw/nut when I pulled on the handle to look in between. Was going to address it eventually, but I think I'd have to take the door apart from inside to get access to it.

Same thing on my ‘16. Have you taken apart yet to confirm fitment?

It's a white vehicle problem. Similar to the rust specks. Normally you can't see it but white makes it stand out.

It's a Toyota problem. Mine is MGM and the nuts behind the door handle are definitely rusting.

Update: The truck went into the body shop last week and had the hardware replaced and the paint corrected where it was stained. They used the hardware I noted above (same as 2nd gen) and did all four doors for me.

Hello, are you able to post a pic of the new nut on one of the handles? You should be able to open the handle and peel the gasket away, thanks.
