LS will likely always be king of the swaps. Much like SBC’s and BBC’s always were. Cheap, tons of support and readily available parts. It’s hard to beat. Though money talks and anything is possible if your pockets can support it.

One intriguing motor (I am not a ford guy) is the 7.3 Godzilla. Gobs of power and relatively cheap as a crate motor from ford. However some things are concerning. One of which being electronically controlled oil pressure. Time will tell where that platform goes. But it definitely has potential.

From what I am learning myself
The suburban or similar lines can be used for their 4WD units into the taco so I’ll probably try to force that to work when I get to that juncture

    Whole lotta stuff
I had a hunch, not much beats an LS in terms of parts, versatility, and power.

A ford 7.3 would be crazy, with that kind of power. I haven’t read up much on it. I imagine the footprint of that motor is pretty large and heavy considering an go-fast application.

If it wasn’t still a pain to locate a scrap/used block
I’d want to try a 6.8LT block bored over to 7.0

The footprint really isn’t terrible considering. 430hp and 475ftlbs in factory form is pretty awesome. The drag world is starting to push the platform now with pretty impressive results. Downfall is, it is an iron block. So it is going to be a little on the heavy side. I think you will see this engine trickle into the off-road world though considering it’s specs.

LS motors are outdated and there is a reason GM stopped production in 2012.

Hardly outdated nor will they be for a long time. Still the most common platform in off-road, drag and other forms of racing. The LT’s are cool and all. Until you’re slide hammering injectors out or have issues with carbon buildup on your valves. The LT’s will come around. But we are years from them being on LS level.

That’s a coyote. Not a Godzilla. Godzilla is not dual overhead like the coyote which makes them substantially smaller. Even as a 7.3, the bore spacing is more in line with a small block than it is a big block. It’s truthfully a surprisingly small package with a fully dressed weight similar to an iron block LS.

LT’s are far superior, the problem is people don’t understand them and all the little tricks that make them amazing. It’s no different than when everyone thought the Chevy 350 was the holy grail of motors. Those guys all hated on the LS stuff in the beginning because they didn’t understand it.

No hate on the LT’s. But I will say I have fixed more fuel issues with them than I ever have the LS. Namely injector failures. And they are a bitch to get out more often than not requiring a slide hammer. Just saying it will take some time for them to get on LS level.

They discuss both in that video
That is just the picture I had handy
The ford family makes more powerful motors but sizing leaves them overall more bulky

LS/LT lost in most every category except size

Like the VVT that really breathes life into their power band but all the tuners use a blocking on it and get rid of it cause it’s “hard” to tune

Ford made a solid call bringing back a pushrod motor in my opinion. I’ve never been a ford guy at any point in my life. But that 7.3 definitely has my attention. And it should have the attention of others as well.

    That’s the DOD system failure
    Once you *delete that
    Runs like a champ

those collapsing lifters are only on the DOD cylinders

    Agree with you
    But
Production numbers of that motor keep it an expensive project for people who don’t own tacomas

Yeah I ditched the vvt as well just for simplicity. Would have been sweet to keep though.

Toyotas new twin turbo V6 in the Tundra goes pretty good, and I'm curious if one will ever make it into a mid size. Pretty complicated with the electrics though, but I bet there's decent headroom for more boost in them considering how Toyota build for reliability.

I wish my tuner was able to keep it
You’ll tell a difference over the drive ability of it vs “stock”
Ruling the cam aspect out of it

For now yes they are more pricey than an LS. But it was also released during the China flu. So that’s definitely part of it. Prices will come down.

It doesn’t come in many vehicles
    So
Total production numbers will keep it expensive
Vs the LS/LT that come in a dozen vehicles
