The thicker cable goes to the engine block, at or, near a starter bolt. If Toyota don't sell just the negative cable, you cant make them produce one. Just like you can’t get a tensioner pulley, you have to buy the whole assembly from Toyota even though you can replace just the pulley bearing for a fraction of the price.

Just wire brush everything clean, cover everything with grease of any kind, and replace. Wash hands and you're done. Repeat when needed, years if done well.

Did you look at my pics in post 17?

I have a 5 lug with a 24F I just pulled out tonight. So the cable is plain as day.

'back side of the battery' is the side facing the firewall, your pic is from the front looking at the fender.

Just because we've been wrenching a long time doesn't mean we don't have room to learn. :hattip:

The picture that I show is exactly what I was looking for, call it a pig tail, ground wire, what ever...Its about 6 " long & has the terminal that bolts on the negative post of the battery on one end & the other end bolts to the fender...Now if its crimped down the line that's a whole other conversation.... I am looking to replace this part of it.....Perhaps I wasn't clear but I just don't know any other way to explain it.....

4cyl vs 6 cyl doesn't matter here. Same as 2wd vs 4wd. The battery cable is still the same.

like others are saying, you can chop up your factory cable just to knock off some surface rust, or put it in coke, or use a wire brush if it's bothering you this much.

if i were you, id get a wire brush for $1, use 10 min of elbow grease, and then spray some battery post protector on there and reconnect. Or you can pay $300 and have a much bigger job than 2 bolts.

Its crimped at the clamp. Probably not an easy job to undo the crimp, replace the small section, and re-crimp. The battery wires require a more serious crimping tool than just a pair of pliers

Your picture shows the heaver gauge cable crimped in parallel with the short body ground cable you’re wanting to replace, does it not?

That's typical with OEM parts, manufacturers sell almost everything as assemblies.
Ran into that on a Ford Expedition today, has a leaking evaporator. The only way it is serviced is with the entire HVAC box at over $500.

It looks to be in relatively good condition yet, I'd trust it alot longer than an aftermarket cable. I'm with the others, clean it good and put it back together with a bit of grease.

You can ignore that little wire and just run a wire from the engine block where the bigger wire attaches, and run a ground wire from there to the body. But I still think your wiring is fine as is. I would just remove the terminal and unbolt the little wire and wire brush everything. As suggested, applying some dielectric grease to the terminal will prevent further corrosion. Also apply to all metal contact parts.

Yep. My next door neighbor needs a front wheel bearing for his Prius. Toyota only sells the hub and bearing assembly.

But battery cables ??? I'm replacing all serviceable parts on a 05 Matrix with 200+ miles & using all OEM, including fluids...Just over china junk...anyhow sometimes you just get disappointed with what seems to be logical common sense, when you get a curve ball....

Your search fu is impressive. I quickly clicked through the engine harnesses section but completely missed that engine harness. Nicely done.

I don't think anyone is disagreeing with you but manufacturers don't see it that way, they want to produce stuff as cheaply and efficiently as possible.

The more parts that can be put together as an assembly the quicker it can be assembled going down the assembly line, replacement parts are typically the same as the parts used on the assembly line so small individual components many times aren't available separately OEM.

It kinda sucks at times but at least parts are still available, we are running into more and more relatively new vehicles (in some cases only a few years old) where major parts are discontinued or are on infinite backorder and almost impossible to obtain.
