Ah, I got it now. Thank you.

The big thing for me will be the crash bars, bark busters, and mirrors that fold; as I am certain I'm going to drop the bike more than once and If I can save it some damage I'd like to. Eventually way down the road I may put a couple small bags on it so I can do light grocery shopping on it, and someday use it for some overnight trips.

If you can get the crash bars at a bigger company then maybe. The place i got my crash bars from is a semi small company, so no sales like 20% off or anything like that..

Expensive accessories I always be patient and buy used on enthusiast forms like TW. Had good luck with CL and big auction site.

Ah, I'm not willing to dive into more forums than the two I am on now. Plus, the bike just got an update in 2022 so I don't think any of it's accessories are really available used, or if they are it might be somebody that thinks what they have on their 2015 will work on the model because the changes haven't been drastic over the years.

IDK if Outback Motortek counts as big, but they make the crash I want, and that forces me into their skid plate as well. Not a bad thing, but it is the only option if I want their bars. If I go luggage in the future I'll probably go for Giant Loop to help support Dork in the Road's channel, and I saw a breakdown of the bonuses for doing a $100 membership thing for the BDR group includes a 30% discount from Giant Loop. Their gear is expensive enough it's not hard to save more than that $100. There were some other discounts for barkbusters and the mirrors I want at that support level as well. Help the BDR organization and get discounts? Yes, please.

Thats the same company that i was referring to as semi-small. They make my crash bars. I don't think I've seen a set of used crash bars or a sale before.

I like them better than AltRider, or at least for crash bars. Some other products are ok

What about Klim? Can you afford $1000 pants? I cant.

I'll be slow enough I'll risk jeans for a bit. Helmet, gloves, jacket, and boots will eat enough dollars to start out.

Check out Tourmaster Horizon line. Plenty of pockets for all the storage you could ever need! I am happy with $400 for jacket and pants.

Check this place out for closeouts and sales.

    https://www.motorcyclegear.com/

I just recently bought a Klim jacket and then a First Gear mesh jacket at affordable prices. Wanted Klim for years but it's always been too rich for my wallet. Found a good deal on a Gore Tex jacket on closeout and finally pulled the trigger.

Had a cold front come in Sunday night, froze on the ride to work yesterday so I put my liner back in my jacket this morning but didn’t feel like I had time to put on the over pants. It’s really not that bad once the legs go numb.

Lol to be honest, the only place below the waistline I ever notice the cold is my crotch. easily solved by snugging up against the tank.

In episode 2 of the dumbass chronicles, I chose to ignore weather reports today since they mentioned only a 40% chance of rain during the working hours. It's been coming down lightly for the past 2 hours lol. At least I remembered the winter jacket this time.

In other news, what do you guys use for chain cleaning/lubing? I was using the Maxima trifecta (Ultimate Chain Care Kit), but from what I've noticed the 3rd product, the chain wax, goes on pretty thick, and stays pretty thick and tacky. Wondering if you guys have preferred products that won't attract so much grime, or if this is just how the cookie crumbles with moto ownership?

Itchy Boots ran this on a couple of her bikes, that I know of. With the miles she puts down I plan to give it a shot.

I use the Maxima chain wax on my bikes that had chains. Very little throw off onto wheels or painted parts.

My long distance riding friends with chain drive mostly use automatic oilers and they definitely work. If I were to have a chain driven bike as my primary ride again that's the route I would go.

Tack is a good thing for chain wax. It should spray on thin and tack up as it sets. I use the same product and haven't had any issues. The tackier it is, the less likely you are to find it flung all over your wheels.

Hm that's quite interesting, will definitely have a look at that. It'd pay itself back within a year or two. I'm quite liberal in application with my current products

Hm okay. The tack was why I had picked it up in the first place, to avoid it getting thrown everywhere, guess it's a good thing how thick it is. Just figured it was picking up a lot more grime, but maybe I just need to be more diligent about it haha

Regarding chain wax, my best results came from applying it when I got back from a ride and the chain was still warm then letting it sit overnight before riding again. Seemed to penetrate well and set up so it didn't fling off.
