I am trying to put a seatbelt in my 98 Tacoma, and the new seatbelt (from the dealership) has a pretensioner charge on it that looks like it’ll accept a wiring harness. The old seatbelt doesn’t have a charge on it. Beyond that, the new seatbelt won’t retract at all, can anyone tell me what’s going on?

Tensioners are very directional. Unless you're familiar with the angle you'll need to put it in and possibly shake it a little until it will retract/extend.

As for the charge, if you don't have the yellow wire, don't worry about it. You just won't have it operate in a collision, same as before.

Double-check that the buckle fits your existing receiver before you get too far into the install. I've seen/read about different variations. I don't know why or when they changed, but I wonder if they change the buckle to keep people from mixing parts with/without pretensioners.

I think pretensioners were added sometime around '98/'99 (my own completely anecdotal observation), so the dealer might have ordered the wrong part if they went only by model year and not by VIN.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
It just might be the only version left it works the same but the explosive squib charge.

    Retro fit backwards .
