I wouldn't go that far. New truck could be worse.

I would call Toyota and let them know and then find another dealer.

A faint diff noise is normal on any solid axle truck but it really should never be that loud.

Yeah mine is a faint whine… I may go in and ask them to check. My fear is that they replace it and the depth is set incorrectly and it is worse.

Looks like the diff howl lives on. Some of us early adopters actually got diff's replaced / trucks lemon'd with this. I have a video of the noise somewhere, it was a faint whine. My 16 SR5 had it and ended up with 2 diff replacements before it went to the lemon lot for my 17 OR which ended up with it too and at that point Toyota determined it was "normal". Oddly never heard it in my 19, 20 or 22. I do agree, some trucks get it some don't just like driveline vibes and whether you can stuff tires without trimming on some and can't on others.

I told you in the first thread about this to get rid of the Tacoma and buy something else if you didn't like it. No point in keeping something you don't like.

The differential howl has been known for years on both 2nd and 3rd gen trucks.

Well then they can fix it ! Why should I have to listen to this. Some trucks do it some don’t. I’ve owned 4 3rd gens . None of my other trucks have made this noise. Dealer is going to fix it plain and simple. I’m not settling for this

It’s a humming noise that changes even going around turns sometimes then is worse at 58mph I’m not accepting this. None of my other tacos ever made this noise

My dude, my 16 that had this had 2 rear diffs replaced and still did it, your only option maybe another truck or learning to deal with the hum. To Toyota this is normal for our trucks / harmonics, I'll be surprised if you get them to even do it under warranty at this point. Unless your issue is not the rear diff hum.

It’s not harmonics if I can hear it with the windows down. Open my rear slider and you can hear the diff making noise it’s clearly a bearing or not set up right

Trying to buy your way out of this noise isn't going to solve the issue. The new truck could have the same problem but worse.

I’ve had 3 3rd gens before this and none of them did this. It’s possible we’re talking about 2 completely different noises

That was at 30 mph on base, the bad bearing noise I'd definitely be addressing.

    A few.
IMO best thing to do is ask the tech to go for a ride with u so u can put the truck at the right speed range and conditions to get it to do it. Otherwise there is a good chance they will say they couldnt duplicate it.

Dude, I'm telling you that specific sound Toyota deams this as normal now, wont matter cause when your dealer submits the warranty claim, corporate is gonna shoot it down. The only reason us early adopters got diffs replaced was because Toyota was still trying to work out real world small things, my first diff even got sent back to Toyota to look at. There were whistling control arms that ended up getting plugs, etc.
