The Tacoma tailgates are so far behind in innovations.

i just watch the latest Chevy Colorado tailgate innovations. It can be hung in a 45 degrees manner.
it has a drainable storage compartment comes with 45 inch long and 4 inches deep. Lift the lid and the lid stays up.
Also has a ruler from 1 inches to 38 inches built on the tailgate.

Toyota had many years to design more useful tailgates. There designers are so behind. Even a side step bumpers.
    SAD…
My Son’s 2016 had compartments on both sides of the bed. My 2019 only got the smaller passenger side compartment. Toyota going sideways instead of trying to be better….

Chevys need more storage to hold all the warranty repair receipts

Why would you want your gate on a 45...open or closed less things to break

lol. I like the Tacoma for simplicity no need to complicate things. I know the 24's will be more hi tech but I hope they keep some of the old school feeling features like Doug Demuros favorite button. The old school Toyota flat bed button. [IMG]

One can never have too many light bars.
My tailgate opens when I open it and closes when I close it. I can sit on it whilst consuming alcoholic beverages in parking lots before entering sporting events. Everything else seems like a gimmick.

I think it was a Silverado, but a work truck at a former employer... had some sort of powered/hydraulic step that folded out of the tailgate. If you had a ball in the hitch, the step would hit the ball hard and dent the tailgate. Great design...

Most could care less about tailgate tech advancements lol.

I know there’s a lot of people in this thread having a giggle, but this actually sounds like it could be useful for my cross border trips.

I'm not for the truck gimmicks. I have to wonder what Toyota was thinking with the new Tundra? When other OEM are adding more steps to their bumpers, Toyota eliminated all but the middle step on the Tundra rear bumper. When for since I can remember the entire top of the rear bumper was a flat surface.

    Edit

Toyota got it right in the early 2000s, don't know what happened after that?
