What makes you think they won't do their job? It's a basic brace, not a keystone for the bed.

If you're actually concerned about it, why not call/tag @TOTAL CHAOS, and ask them directly?

I would think so. The gap allows for some flexing but not very much.

dont worry ya'll. by drilling holes into the bed, we probably made it weaker.

Are there people who've actually had the composite bed crack caused by additional weight of something like a topper/ rtt?

I doubt it. Unless the closed tailgate shows radically different gaps down the sides tiny gaps like this are more likely just manufacturing discrepancies.

I am gunna redo them and I’ll keep you guys notified. I bet it’ll close the gap. Thanks for all the info. I called them and they said it shouldn’t matter but if you get it tighter it would be better.

Mine had a similar gap with the middle bolts about 1/8”. It seemed like it didn’t match the bed perfectly since the bottom and top bolts lined up, and the middle ones never closed the gap.

I think he means the stiffeners touch the bed top & bottom but not in the middle. Probably has to do with the steel gussets behind the tail lights, they would have to pop free before it could cinch up which is contrary to the whole notion.

Not a problem asking the question and we are happy to get your feedback. In looking at the pics I didn't really see a "gap". Keep in mind that while the bed stiffners are welded in a fixture that there can always be some tiny variance and when added to the squareness of the bed from toyota also coming with a small variance somethings may not line up dead perfect. from the pics you posted it seemed perfectly fine however.

hope you enjoy them and thanks for reaching out!

We have in our shop trucks even without a topper. just being off roaded hard can create warp. Adding weight just makes it that much worse.
