Ummmmm yeah about those TPS reports…here I am worried bitching and complaining that my truck just lost the coolant crossover pipe a few miles over 4K yes 4 with three zeros at only 4 months and 5 days old and you want a ruler and a cute compartment to fit shit in. Dude I will gladly trade concerns with you right now…think I’m going to go out and sit on my piece of shit low tech tailgate on my truck I can’t drive and have a beer and thank the good Lord that my small problem isn’t all that bad after all. Screw it I’m taking the bourbon too.

Because when my arms are full and I’m walking from the hardware store and I go to open my tailgate and can’t because I have to reach into my pocket and click the unlock, it makes me want to stab someone.

IMO that’s the ugliest Toyota pick up rear end.

No. ...and if I did slip up and do that: the truck re-locks itself in 30 seconds if no door is opened within that time. Nice feature.

Tonneau in my case. Nice for security I suppose. It does tick me off every time I forget I need to unlock it.

I thought the stamped tailgate was a shitty update from the 2nd to 3rd Gen. But I’m sure Toyota is saving a bundle with a one time production update and the elimination of the actually stick-on lettering. Not to mention the sale of letter inserts as an add on. Put me in the camp of “leave good enough alone”.

When I’m walking outta the store and my hands are full, I always have my key on the lanyard hanging off my neck. Works great, don’t have to reach into pockets.

That’s not a terrible idea. I’m a one key guy, car key ONLY because even that one is a little annoying to be in the pocket. I wear an ID badge all day for work. I could throw my key on there and roll with it.

I got you OP. I'd love the tailgate to have a mid position and it's a project I am going to tackle this summer I think. Would be wonderful for lumber, et al. My coworker has a Maverick which has a pretty brilliantly simple approach to this, not sure how the GM's do it but I'm admitting I am too lazy to look.

Not only that, while I might be killing any credibility I had left, I wouldn't mind if that wasted space in the tailgate were usable one way or another. I thought I saw a thread on here where someone was making some form of cubby for that space.

Oh! And I put in an OEM power tailgate lock...and I like it...

What a biblically abysmal design..I mean, holy cow..
