Favorite Whiskey?

Is this a "good" or "average" price for Weller 7yr? I've never shopped for for a bottle before.

 

That is a bad price for Weller special reserve. Should be closer to $30.

 

retail was 19.99 a few years ago, now it’s closer to 30….if you really want one I could get one to you for like 45ish

maybe some Texas members could do better

 

Just bought some recently and paid $25 for it, NE Ohio.

 

I did a quick Google search before I posted, and saw the 3yr for $20, but couldn't get a clear answer for the 7yr. Thank you each for the input.

 

As the others have said, that's way too much. Problem is, in California where you (we) are, it's uncommon to start with and very rare at the prices they mention. As someone who has one open and only uses it for an occasional mixer I say no way at $80. It may be blasphemy to some when I say it, but it's really not special.

 

I do think it's an enjoyable whiskey but not anymore than $30. For that just get a bottle of bulleit.

 

Yeah that’s nearly 3x retail. You should be able to find some for $30. Check Total Wine if you have one nearby. I’m in North GA and good Bourbon is very hard to come by. I found out which day my local TW gets their shipments in and tend to go by that morning to see what they put out on a limited basis. Happy hunting!

 

I once saw a Weller SR 750 for $100 and the 1.75 for $150 and I just about had a heart attack

 

Total Wine is my go-to when I check prices. I can't find any Weller bottles listed anywhere near me.

 

$30 bottle. $80 is insane. Buy a Rare Breed and a WT101 together for the same money instead.

 

Weller Special Reserve doesn’t have an age statement, so the bottle you posted in the photo is neither Weller 7 year nor Weller 3 year. Weller 7 year might have been a thing once, but no longer is. Weller 3 year, never heard of it.

 

This is where I saw 3yr.

 

Non-age stated bourbon has to be at least 4 years by law, so 3 yr is out.

 

It's walmart, so I'm not sure I'd trust their information.

$40 is my top for Weller Special Reserve...and it's my favorite sipper.

 

Those ads are bullshit. Click on the Walmart link and it will tell you it's in stock and $20. Go to the next page and then it's, surprise surprise, "out of stock". All those low retail price ads are BS, or they tack on a "shipping charge" that is double or triple the cost of the bottle.

 

Yeah someone at Walmart doesn’t know what they’re doing. I think the Special Reserve is known to be about six years aged or more, but there’s no age statement on the bottle itself.

$30 is a fair price to pay for the SR. I like SR, but it’s fair to say that it’s basically Weller’s bottom shelf offering. I mean, it has a screw on cap. The insane appetite for all things Weller, which has long been out of control, is reaching new heights with a $90 bottle of SR.

 

That’s awesome you got to tour JD!! Also, I have a feeling the 12 year secondary pricing is going to be on par with Coy Hill releases.
