    Well this kinda all starts with even more engine theory, some heads and piston designs promote swirling of the air and fuel mixture, sometimes called a swirl chamber. Anyway the better mixed your air and fuel molecules the more uniform the burn and the more you can drive the timing up because the results can be repeated every time reliably. So Denso, Hitachi, Aisin all tried this air assist idea where a separate chamber is drilled into the intake manifold to distribute metered air to the base (pintle) of the special injector for the purposes of a small swirl chamber within the pintle of the injector. At the time, this was a pretty good advacnement but it didn't catch on because it came at a time when traditional injectors were getting pretty damn good at atomizing on their own as a lot went to multi hole designs instead of the single annular discharge hole of the early styles.

    Most toyotas after the 1980s (with the exception of some high performance models) use high impedance (saturated) injectors. It's more common overall actually. Low impedance injectors are more early technology that is over complicated since they use peak and hold drivers that allow higher amperage for opening the injector and then they hold the injector (dwell) at a lower sustained amperage before closing. It requires more hardware and back in the day allowed for more accurate control and higher injection rates, but technology for controlling high impedance has come a long way and now allows even more flow and control.

    Ok it's been a while since I had that truck so couldn't recall where the interference was but I do remember I ran the tie rods "opposite" from the orientation on the Tacoma. @Digiratus just FYI.

    Yup, and then at the lower intake manifold it splits into two tubes and and there are channels bored front to back through each injector well to distribute the air. Can see the ball bearing they pressed in as caps here along with the balance tube.

    Wait. This does not sound right.

    Are you saying you put the Tacoma outer TRE marked for the passenger side onto the driver side on the 4R? It seems like that would put the bend in the rod in the wrong place and cause interference.

    Regular road going 4Runner I would just run the 4Runner tie rods and ball joints. I don't think it's going to make any difference being on the road 90% of the time

    Yeah, I'm beginning to think this way too.

    It's my understanding that the only other difference is the diameter of the tapered end on the oTRe that fits into the LBJ.

    Unless I've always had them backwards on the green truck, the bend is towards the LCA. To run them on a 4R the bend needs to face towards the cab. Picture below is green truck.

    So I'm trying to sell the diffs and this guy wants to come open the diff cover before he buys to check for wear. Does this sound reasonable at all? Could you really tell that much just by taking the cover off?
