Dealer just called and it will be here soon....sometime between this afternoon and Monday. 2023 Tacoma SR5 4x4 V6 Double Cab (Mag gray). What are some things to look at before I sign for it, other than test driving it? It comes with the Apple cable kit and some kind of underbody LED "puddle lighting" or something like that. The SET DIGITAL PORTFOLIO is a mystery to me too. I mean, other than checking fluids and tire pressures AND doing a good test drive, what are the things people get screwed on upon delivery?

    Options list below.

Phone Cable Charge Package w/Two Rear USB Ports

Includes: Innovative smart USB connector, either way is up, Two fast charging 2.4A power ports, Blue LED power status light shines thru flip cap, 1-Apple Lightning to USB-A Cable - 3', 1-Apple Lightning to USB-C Cable - 3', 1-USB-C to USB-A Cable - 3', 1-USB-C to USB-C Cable - 3'

    Audio Plus:

    --

    50 State Emissions

    --

    6-Gallons of Gas

    --

    TOYOGUARD Platinum

Two Synthetic Oil Changes including Oil Filter Changes at any Toyota Dealer, Four Tire Rotations,, Roadside Assistance, Rental Car Assistance,, Exterior Paint Sealant, Interior Protector

    All Weather Floor Mats

    SET Digital Portfolio

Includes: Certified Technician 46 Point Quality Inspection, Digital Picture Asset Program

    LED Under-car Puddle Illumination

    Carpet Floor Mats

    SR5 Package:

I just picked mine up 2 weeks ago. I looked for paint quality, body panel gaps (some weren’t perfect but acceptable), bumper clearance beneath lights/bumper level. Interior fitment and creaks rattle during test drive. If you are a picky person look at the hood, headlight, and fender joint, misalignment and poor fitment with many posts about that driving people crazy. Driveline vibration or vibration at 35-60 mph seems to be a major issue and possibly some weird whining noise from the differential. And the most complained about issue, gear hunting of the transmission. If it annoys on test drive I wouldn’t take delivery since it seems to be the most talked about feature of the truck. Mine doesn’t seem to do it, but it appears many do it very badly.

oh and the SET portfolio isn’t something you get it’s just a check sheet in the delivery process. And you got ripped off in the Toyoguard Platinum too. Southeast Toyota must rip everyone off with that useless package.

Puddle illumination ... so you do not splash water on your nice shoes because overhead lights do not go that far below the truck.

DIGITAL PORTFOLIO is probably just an online set of documentation which I cannot see use for, others may though.

Lots of Apple-approved cables and 2 rear charge ports ... charge ports are handy.

Thank you!!!!! The dealer removed the Toyoguard package for me by lowering the price of the truck by $699 since he couldn't remove it from the sticker. I did tell him in return that I'd buy their cheapest extended warranty in return. I haven't bought those in 20 years or more, but I will this time. So, I get the Toyoguard anyway. He said it covers 4 years of maintenance. 2 that Toyota is giving everyone now and 2 for the Toyoguard.

when you do the test drive the salesperson will be with you and will be telling you all about it. don't let their talking distract you from concentrating on how it drives and the things to watch for as described in above posts. you might have to tell him/her to shut up. LOL

See if it shakes between 30-60. Mine did. I got rid of it. Never really loved the truck anyway

SALESPERSON: That is a very good question. You know I want you to be completely happy with the truck, and you have been smiling a lot. We really do try to serve the customer. Err ... what was the question again?

Only 6 gallons of gas? Is that also a SET mafia thing? My '22 came with a full tank of gas, and it was even stated on the monroney label (window sticker) at the bottom of the column, after the interior equipment.

    Regardless, congratulations!

He said they fill it up and he's not sure where the 6 gallons thing comes from. That would be pretty cheap these days if they really did that.

Puddle lights run the length of the doors on the both sides. Lights up the area pretty decent, Auto on/off when you open the door. You can look underneath and you'll see the lights - sort of like the rock lights but not quite as robust looking but functional.

Most dealers fill it up these days. The distributors only fill it up 6 gallons because they are the SET mafia. My dealer Sunny King Toyota in Anniston AL was very good to deal with during the process. The only thing I noticed yesterday was that my truck sticker says built 11/22. It didn’t get to dealer until 3/2, which seems excessive to get from factory to dealer. My curiosity is what was wrong with truck that it took that long to get there, but it appears to be fine. I didn’t notice build date until much later.

to me; the main thing is looking for damage and imperfections that are not under warranty. Like dents, scratches, misalignment, they could just as easily blame you for. Take a walk through in the service bay under the lights, they are usually very unforgiving.

Thanks SO MUCH for all the help and tips folks. Greatly appreciated! I'll post pictures after delivery. I guess I was lucky....mine was built 21 Feb, so short time between the assembly line and delivery. Hopefully everything works and is put together well. I'm really focused on looking for the driveline vibration and tranny gear hunting. I'm probably overly paranoid of that now!

Make sure that your Toyoguard Platinum sticker is lined up correctly. I know it’s SET and technically not the dealer’s scam, but for $699 bucks I’d literally consider making them remove & reapply that sticker just for spite…

Seriously though, I wouldn’t get too detailed on panel alignment. There likely will be inconsistencies as the factory allows relatively liberal gap parameters. As long as it’s not something ridiculous, no big deal. Paint out of Baja seemed a lot better to me than prior years.

You bought a great truck, drive it home like a hero. Congrats

Yup, thank you! I'm also going to put it in 4wd on a straight stretch just to ensure it works.
