We came in thru 50. There was a pretty big snow drift that looked passable but once you walked up you notice there is pretty much a snow sink hole

What are your thoughts of Usal? passable ar this time with all the recent rain? Have the day off tomorrow and Thursday. Considering heading out there for a one nighter and do some surf fishing.

The drive time might take away from valuable fishing time crammed in an overnight trip

MCDot doesn't have it listed as closed but as you know, dirt in that neck of the woods can be slick as snot. There's a flood warning till tomorrow and rain for the weekend.

With all this snow in the mountains is there any interest in planning a desert trip before it gets too warm? I'm thinking Death Valley or Johnson Valley

    Just 3 tons of fun!!!

Literally just got back from DV last night. Was a good trip, but pulled the plug a little early because it was raining all day and 30 mph winds yesterday, today was supposed to be worse.

But... I did get to wear shorts and a t-shirt for a couple days.

Got back last night from a quick trip to Death Valley with @El Taco Diablo and @essjay. We spent the first windy night at Trona Pinnacles. C1154337-2490-49C3-B254-7B55A197817C.jpg I really like this as a jump point for hitting DV as it gets most of the driving done and it’s relatively easy to find a place to set up camp. This was the first night in the Skycamp mini and Mrs Blue Canary approves! C1154337-2490-49C3-B254-7B55A197817C.jpg69F233E5-7ECA-4544-ABC5-D09F614428BE.jpg . The next day we checked out Ballerat and got Skidoo’d at Skidoo. But all was not lost. Some of us explored a mine shaft after ignoring the Ted Talk from @essjay on why we don’t go into abandoned holes in the mountain. More driving and the day turned to night. We ended up setting up late in the warmth of Furnace Creek. Not ideal, but it really wasn’t bad for a backup camp spot. The next day saw Dante’s view, Hole in the Wall, and Echo canyon. We spied a few locals along the way CE49189B-214E-4D04-BAB2-C496F151B9C1.jpg . It’s been 3 years since we last ran Echo and I was pleased with how the truck handled it after some well thought out mods. 33’s didn’t hurt. We had to stack some rocks on the second waterfall to get my unlocked butt up the trail, but it wasn’t too bad. I didn’t get any pics, but I’m sure something will materialize shortly. BD97795E-E375-4425-BB8F-2CAE6DD211DF.jpg . The last night the group had to split up as work called for some. @El Taco Diablo and I found a quiet little nook to spend the night while @essjay headed to Chloride City. B0D0E999-8EA4-43B7-A219-65A8E7407069.jpg . Yesterday morning we saw the clouds rolling in and the temps dropping. We made a quick trip to Beatty to check the weather and stock up on veggie chips and candy. The forecast was pretty bad with wind and rain being the deal of the day. We checked out Rhyolite ghost town and the little museum on the way back west. Very cool and eclectic, just the way we like it. 3CCA2825-9D5B-4E76-B7E9-BB2CFB457587.jpg3C8D3F8C-8983-4F80-9611-3F58ADB27F12.jpg .
We didn’t hit everything that was on the list, but also got to pin some things to check out in the next trip.

Thanks bro! The road wasn’t too bad actually. Road was moist but not muddy at all. There were some spots towards the beach that had deeper water puddles than usual. Deep enough to keep the low clearance vehicles out. The road was soft, didn’t even have to air down. No wind, sunny, but boy was it cold at night. I had the entire beach and area to myself. A fox came and stole some food overnight but overall good trip.

funny thing…I spent about 8 hours of fishing in two days with different bait and lures, got skunked. It was only when I decided to try sand crabs, at the first cast and in less than a minute was when I caught the perch. It was type of bait all along lol!

I haven’t had much days off these days to join in the fun with you guys, but I’m glad I just went for it in this trip.

Wow that river out to the ocean is so much bigger than when I was there. Full on water crossing!

Also what's going on in that picture looking down the beach? At Usal? Looks like a large sand shelf dropoff? Don't remember that being there

A couple days on the coast isn't such a bad thing. Nice surf perch as well as selection to grill on the fire.

The river was deep and the water running through washed and carved the beach in half. I took zero chances and did not even cross to the other side by foot. Would have been swept away for sure. It looked like the Sacramento River. Never soon Usal like this. Same scene along highway 1 at every beach. Some larger than others.
