This morning I got the flashing CEL and OBD read misfire on 2/3. Looking at the diagram, 2/5 are connected and 3/6. So did two coils go bad at once, or did the CEL only come on when I had multiple misfires? Or is it done by amount of fuel getting to the CAT?

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
    just what code?

It is possible 2 coil packs are not firing

It could be the anything from the ECM the wiring harness to the coils .

I believe it was P0302/3, I didn’t write it down like a dummy. What’s the next step to isolate the issue?

I was coming up a hill and the CEL started flashing. It would flash for a bit, stop for a bit, then flash again. Seemed to also be rough.

When was the last time the spark plugs were changed wires?

Did this happen as soon as you turned it on in the morning?
It is odd that you’d have 2 coils go at once.

Yesterday I drove about 180 miles in some traffic and up into foothills of sierras but not all the way up the mountain. This morning, I drove back 15 miles down into town, and on the way back up from town up the hill the CEL started flashing. It’d flash for a bit, then stop, then flash again. Seemed to struggle as well.

Long enough ago to be embarrassed about. Could bad plugs/wires in their own be the issue? Would doing the ohm meter test on the coils be able to say?

The firing order of the 5VZ is 1-2-3-4-5-6.
Most vehicles detect misfires by the the rate of the crankshaft RPM.
Seeing how 2 & 3 are are adjacency in the firing order, I’d start by checking the plugs and wires on those cylinder. I’d move plug 2 to 6. And 3 to 5.

If you want, you could check the resistance of the coils.

Thanks, will do. So OOO is visual check, wire/plug check, ohm check. Replace as necessary

Last time that happened to me it was just a wire that was bad. Easy cheap fix.
