Did your dealer tell you that? Weird since your vin still isn’t showing up on Toyota tracker site. I’d want to question the truth to that.

Yes, this has been confirmed by both @DragonPro23 as well as my dealer.

I checked it on the Toyota tracker site and didn't see it there either. I have heard that not all vehicles show up there.

I think Toyota tracker can lag behind by a few days sometimes too.

Hello @DragonPro23 - Can you check 3TYCZ5AN8PT129173 for me? Late January build date and I am certain my Trail Edition is caught up in the hold. Current information from the dealer is 3/26 for transit to begin.

I think it will happen for you once the guys at port scan your truck and begin installing the accessories.

I'm feeling some off hold first-ish guilt, but finally got my truck today. Full timeline, allocated mid December 22, Jan 23rd build date, 2/14 hold date, off hold 3/12ish, 3/17 pickup.
Side note, if anyone is looking for, or knows someone looking for a factory tonneau cover, trying to sell mine as I have a cap that's getting installed next week.

Congrats! I hope to be joining the club soon. Was your dealer ever able to give you any information about why it was on hold?

No not really, they mainly tried to downplay it as business as usual, and I didnt really press, since I just figured I wasn't gonna get much anyways. I wonder if we'll ever know.

I doubt we’ll ever know. Crazy that this is “business as usual”.

ya, but in a different (precovid) world, this very well may have been business as usual, but it was transparent to the consumer, since you were much more likely to be buying something off a lot and there was alot more inventory, so even if a batch got held up, you might not notice a small downtick. it seems like this hold was maybe a months worth of production that got held up, maybe less, I think I saw people that had mid/late feb builds that had either gotten their trucks, or at least close. idk

Mine was built on 1/28 and went on hold on 2/17. It just came off of hold a few days ago and is showing delivery in a week according to the Toyota tracker app. I'm also getting door unlock notices from the Toyota app.

Definitely. I’m sure this happened all the time precovid it just didn’t impact the consumer. Wonder if we ever get back to being able to just go to the lot and buy a truck the same day?

Nope. Toyota likes it this way. Dealerships have to be sweating bullets. This is the precursor to the elimination of dealerships by the manufacturers. They like the Tesla model and is a way for them to raise prices way quicker and easier. In additon, dealers used to hold about 30-90 days of inventory depending on dealer. Now they are lucky to have 7 days worth of inventory. Locally only full size GM trucks have any inventory of note. The rest is order or allocations only.

I suspect you’re right. And they can keep prices high by artificially keeping supply low.

What’s the point of a dealership at this point? In cross shopping all the midsize trucks, there were exactly zero new Tacomas, Rangers, or Colorado/Canyon twins within 100 miles of me. In order to select, I had to test drive used trucks. The Toyota dealerships in the Baton Rouge area have almost no stock of any model. They may have 1 Camry, a couple Highlanders usually of the highest trim level, and maybe a couple Siennas. The lots are empty and embarrassing and why do you need 4 dealers in BR area when none have any vehicles. It’s been that way for nearly 3 years; why would it change at this point.

Exactly the same way around me. Basically no cars on the lot. I’m amazed at how they stay in business. I know they were making a lot of money on used cars a year or so ago, but not now. I’m getting my truck from a dealership three hours away from me because they were the closest with an allocation of a Tacoma like I wanted. There’s no perk to a local dealer anymore.

Same…I went to a dealership over 350 miles to get the Trail Edition I wanted. All the local dealerships said they don’t get allocations for a Trail Edition every 7 months or so. I couldn’t wait that long as they might not get one before the 2024 goes into production. Dealerships are useless now except for service.
