VTAILS (Turn/Reverse Switchback)

Hey again!

I'm here to share another kit I helped produce with VLEDS. These kits turn your reverse bucket into a shared amber turn + white reverse bucket via a switchback bulb, and converts your running and brake light into a combined "horseshoe" brake/running light.



This is identical in functionality to the popular Total Tail kits you may have seen. The truth is, VLEDS was the outfit that originally produced the bulbs for those kits and had been making a similar kit for another platform before that. The version we released is a refresh that includes a more robust wire harness and brighter bulbs. There are quite a few forum members that have already purchased our kits and we figure it's time to make a dedicated post.

The kits are broken up into two options to suit the person that wants a lower-cost yet incredibly bright light output and the person that just wants everything maxed-out to the brightest reasonable level possible.

Kit 1
The first kit includes a robust plug-and-play wire harness, 2 VT 56 switchback bulbs that were custom-made for the Tacoma, and 4 "50" red 7443 bulbs. This kit is brighter than the original Stage 1 kit and hits a similar price point. This is the kit I have on my personal truck and I love it.






Kit 2
The second kit is for the person that wants to take advantage of the waterproofing and insane output of the VLEDS V6 Triton bulbs. This kit includes a plug-and-play V6 wire harness, a set of 921 switchback Triton bulbs (NO DRILLING), and a choice between V6 Triton red bulbs or an upgrade to the ridiculous V6 Triton Extreme red bulbs; the choice is yours and the harness will work with whatever you choose.






Hyperflash
Although I have not experienced it on my personal truck, there is a chance you will experience hyper flash on your turn signal when switching to LEDS (lower resistance). No matter the kit you purchase, each harness has a molded connector that will accept a VLR-15 resistor to remedy any hyper flash you might experience. There is no harm in adding the resistor from the get-go if you want to cover all of your bases, but for those that don't want to front a potentially unnecessary cost we are selling these resistors separately.

Love my Total Tails. I'll always advocate for these kits for the safety of the amber turns alone. I have nothing except praise for Meso but obviously we know it can be hard to find stuff in stock there. Very cool to have options on these kits.

 

Are these kits for oem taillights only or will they work with alpha Rex pro tail lights? Thanks

I always take notice of other Taco's tails in traffic to see if they upgraded.

 

I'm running the stage 1 versions with the vlr 15 resistors and love them. They're very bright.

 

In the almost 4 years I've had my kit on, I've only seen two Tacoma's with the set up.

Still haven't seen anyone else for the Tundra set up.

 

One of the things that I really like about these kits that I think never gets mentioned is the contrast between the parking and the brake lights. Not only is it nice to have the full well light up with the brake lights, but the stock lights don’t have big difference between park/running lights and brake lights. With these kits, it is much more obvious that the brakes are being applied. Good work @kmorgan3 Glad to see options!

 

Get the license plate reverse light bar too...very bright!

 

I’ve had kit2 for a little over a year now and absolutely love it! It’s a bit of an investment at the outset, but definitely worth it. I would do it all over again without question. No hyper flash issues either.

 

Interesting. Would it be possible to post a video that shows how these work live? In the dark too?

Wondering if I NEED to spend the money on this upgrade.

 

I've toyed with this. Does it wash out the reverse camera like the plate lights do?

 

No. It’s tucked up too far for it to impede in the camera view
