Just wanted to share, and hopefully get some inspiration.

I do have to say while I wen't a bit overboard on the suspension, on the road it feels smoother than it should be for how REDICULOUS it is offroad. So much flex, so comfortable.

I may reach that level of ... er ... "investment" eventually but am spending money on critical items for now. I did follow advice of this forum to get RCI skid plate ... steel, front only for now but probably eventually transmission and TC and converter-wings. Others make them but I settled on RCI. Front/tranny/TC/converter/diff kit will be $1600-ish but will protect the belly.

 

Yeah... it was like a bad night out of drinking.

Do I need those spindles... na... not like I jump the thing.
But your gonna have the entire front end apart, and someday you just "might" break the stock one, and then you're really screwed.

Or you put the entire thing back together, wheel a bit, and your CV's are destroyed after only 10k miles... Whoa... those are $2k.
But it will solve the problem...

One thing led to another...
Some very expensive choices, some mistakes, some trial and error...
...and now we are here.

I don't even have any lights...
Do I need lights? I barely drive at night let alone offroad at night.
But I might need lights... hmmm those baja designs look nice...

I do have a TRD front skid, Rago Fabrication Fuel Tank Skid, and C4 Fab Sliders.

Not that I use them... since I only cruise the mall.

Yeah... this is definitely not all necessary.

I think the skids are a good idea, depending on where you go.
I personally prefer aluminum for the weight savings.

I do have a TRD front skid (aluminum), Rago Fabrication Fuel Tank Skid (steel) I don't think they offer this anymore, and C4 Fab Sliders that I had line-x done.

Good luck with your build. Go slow, wheel your truck first.

I have tried to do more than cruise the mall. I have turned back from some roads because I am still learning and because I did not like the look of the moguls without at least front protection.

As to aluminum or steel, steel is 2x heavy but I do not plan to have a full bed build-out yet and if I do I will accept it has gone from "maybe 24 MPG highway, but some middling off-road" to "ah f*** it!"

 

Totally understand, your much braver than me... mall crawling is my thing : ) at least according to some members on here.

If you're going to add the weight and keep those bigger tires turning.

Highly recommend regearing and the OV Tune.
It's very expensive, and certainly not "flashy" since know one will know if you regeared or not.
But it makes a HUGE difference. Might be the best upgrade I made in terms of drivability.

I went with 4.88's... if I could do it again...
I would probably opt for the 5.29's

 

I am an old man, and I have the "I like money" disease. I upgrade as needed, such as skid plates ... transmission plate is a thought I cannot seem to get rid of. As my daily driver, I will limit the amount of off-roading, but will enjoy it in AZ and that means the mall cannot be my limit. Though some of the roads require "extreme modifications" which I will likely never add.

As to regearing ... probably too much for my needs. It is a truck, I understand that.
