    Working on it!
Hey Taco lovers! I’m trying to figure out what I’m missing with this 2005 headlight upgrade. The DRL option isn’t working and I’ve plugged in all the stuff.
    What am I missing here?
I also upgraded the fog lights and same issue. Both are supposed to work with the turn signal and have DRL (top and bottom bar) when the center lamp isn’t on.
The turn signal option works for the headlights, (but I noticed it blinks much faster now) just no DRL.
For the fogs, ALL lamps come on, but no turn signal function and no DRL option.
For the fog light connection you can see in the picture there is a blue wire and a yellow wire ready to get crimped. Do those get spliced into the headlamp wiring?
    Thanks for any help!
I’ve attached pictures of the HL wiring harness and fog light harness.

I hate to say it, but with aftermarket headlights like those, wiring - and quality in general - is a crap shoot. Have you tried talking to their customer service people - if they even exist? Even if you get them to work, I'm afraid you're going to be pretty disappointed with the output.

My best guess on the fogs is that it's a polarity issue. If so, swapping the wires in the connectors should fix the problem. As for why the other functions in the fogs aren't working, I'm going to guess that the two unconnected wires have to be hooked into the proper circuits. Just be very careful tapping into factory harnesses to get them working. Done incorrectly, this will lead to all sorts of electrical gremlins down the road.

If you want a wealth of information on 2nd gen headlights and upgrades, this thread is the bible:

The ultimate headlight upgrade H4 (not LED or HID) | Tacoma World

And thank you for your service!

Yeah I’ve looked up the heads and they are straight out of China. So I imagine finding install info or customer service is going to be tough. I was reading on another thread someone saying the switch to LED’s might be throwing off the electrical and it probably needs a resistor in order for those turn signal LED’s to work properly. I’ll need to dig and find that info again. I watched a video on these headlights off Alibaba and mine are not doing what the video does! (I got these off eBay not Alibaba btw.)

As for the fog lights, the eBay guys I got them from said to connect the blue wire Daytime running light connect to car ACC. And the yellow goes to the turn lamp fuse. I’m guessing this is going to require some research to do correctly as I’m not interested in electrical gremlins!

I did find a pricy but great quality option over at TEQ Customs, but I’d like to get these working if I can!

First, 2005 didn't come with DRL unless you or previous owner installed the required relay and harness. Verify the TACO indeed has the relay and it works. Also, the DRL doesn't activate without vehicle ON and parking brake disengaged.

I've made the same mistake with cheaper over seas stuff and boy was I pissed.
Alpharex makes great lights with all the wiring.
Diode dynamics are some killer fogs and pretty easy to get going.

For these wires, you could connect a 9V battery to test the "DRL" feature or run a very small gauge wire from battery positive while main connector is attached to the fog lamp. I'm guesstimating they have different intensity settings, as in high & low beam input to have them bright or dim.

On the turn signal bulb connector, you can add the missing Parking wire to have the input the China Headlight assembly input. It can be tapped off the side marker indicator lamp connector or get these parts and assemble a intercept harness:

    One per side.

    Or do this:

Locking bar on both connector types is on the face of the connector. Pulls out (don't remove it)

    Another guesstimate:
Since original Headlight Low turns OFF when High is selected, the box allows both LED to be ON with High beam.
