Tacoma tailgates are behind in innovations

I like the “soft open” feature as well, those features are about all I need. It’s like the current “don’t slam” toilet seats, love ‘em. I also installed the OEM remote tailgate lock, love it. I have a tonneau cover so my bed is basically a huge trunk.

 

Why don't Toyota make the tailgate a little less easy to remove so it's not as easily stolen? Toyota put a lock on the Tacoma tailgate which is good. The tailgate isn't going to be theft proof, but all the R&D has been completed by the aftermarket. How much would it cost for Toyota to do this?

Well it seems Chevy, Ford etc. seem to have the same problem so don't feel bad.

 

They could do the same. Might be better than the other stuff they came up with for their tailgates.

I have a better idea than discussing how the tailgate should be designed.

Toyota, I’ll be waiting for royalties.

Just get rid of the tailgate as a standard option. Mesh tailgate net is $500 option. Regular tailgate as we know it is $1k option.

Or they can make it a subscription to be able to open the tailgate.

... Yeah probably. Shit is older than I am though and will probably outlast me. And when you slam a door, the neighborhood feels it.
