My 2016 Mazda CX5 had headlights that rotated side to side as the steering wheel turned... worked VERY well.

There aren't any other energy sources besides fossil fuels?

They are limited and not available everywhere, much like FF. If you happen to be in an area that uses FF and the alternatives are not available, you wont have a choice if there are no FF. Alternative energy isn't as welcomed as it once was. With out going to far, you can't please a movement, they don't stop moving.

Personally I'm all for saving the planet. Who doesn't want to have the best, cleanest environment possible?

The reason ICE have been used for over 100 years even though EVs came out first technically in the 1800s is the ease with which Gasoline is transported and most importantly stored in bulk. Writing a law mandating 0 ICE in 12 years is the easy part. Just like a politician can mandate to end poverty in 10 years. Technically, yes it doable, but not likely. I would love to be wrong about this, but like I said the best we can realistically expect in 2035 is about half and half split.

ideals are easier talked about or put into text then real practice.

The technology isn’t there. People do more than drive whatever the range of a EV is. The cold, combined with a serious load on something like a flat bed for instance. You wouldn’t get the advertised range. Not even close.

Meanwhile, places that people never think about like communist China will continue to produce whatever emissions they want, with whatever child labor they want to produce, on the cheap to make products for billion dollar corporations. Manufacturing in China helps with avoiding EPA red tape….and fees…that would come with manufacturing in the US or even Canada for that matter.

All the same, the mining that takes place for the stuff that goes into batteries is also a shit show, not much better than the slave labor.

…and then, to charge said batteries requires fossil fuels or equivalent. You’ll change the whole grid to solar and wind? Maybe water in some areas? Lol places like Socal can’t even keep the lights on in the summer as is…

Then of course, no one wants to talk about disposing of solar cells…and its effect on the environment. While I’m not against a clean environment, I can tell you, government mandate will do nothing but piss people off. When big companies get involved and invest in research and development, then you will see more progress, but the government is never a solution. They will fuck things up like they always have and always will.

It’s not 0 ICE, it’s no new ICE sales. All the millions of existing ICE vehicles can continue to drive as usual.

On my Mazda3, you could go into a menu and adjust the sensitivity of the auto beams, and I found a setting where they worked quite well. Otherwise, I never owned a vehicle where they worked well, Honda, Lexus, nor my current Tacoma.

I've had them on my last 3 vehicles and turned them off every time. The problem around where I drive is that there are a lot of smaller rolling hills...so at night, the car infront of me rolls down a hill...the come on. I crest the small hill, they turn off. I start going down, they go on. I reach the top, the go back off. And I'm assuming the guy infront of me wonders why I'm flashing my high beams at him.

Cadillac used automatic high beams back in the 1950s thru 1990's that had some kind of dash light sensor. l can remember being blinded by many Cadillac's because they didn't work well at all.

So, do you think Canada (or California, or…) will let you transfer, sell or trade your ICE vehicle after 2035?

Uh, yes? Because I think one thing isn’t the same as the other?

I’ll put $50 on it. And a MalvolioBuiltTM sticker. Takers? (You have to mail a REAL sticker when you lose as well as Venmo or Stella the funds— just use or whatever way you guys normally transfer money to my wife.)

Yes I know. My post refers to New sales. I didn't think I had to specify this, as I figured no one would actually be dumb enough to think that somehow the government could remove 10s of millions of ICE vehicles off the road overnight. The post says this: I would love to be wrong about this, but like I said the best we can realistically expect in 2035 is about half and half split. This refers to new cars sales, not existing cars on the road.

Many things can change in 17 years. I don't expect vehicle sales to be a fraction of what they are today, and those numbers are down from five years ago, not in this country anyway. Emerging markets might see an increase, and manufacturers don't care who are buying there products as long as some one is.

The future of EV looks like shared vehicles at best and autonomous taxis. There's a good chance your autonomous taxi won't even be an EV. The sun is setting on vehicle manufacturing and retail sales in America.

Dude, I love you, but look at this thread. Don’t try to be reasonable. It’s not germane. Let the randomness happen. This is not the thread for the new Platos and Aristotles on commuter vehicles. It’s for the baselines.

Math is hard but 2035 is actually 12 years away. Either way I don’t think manufacturers will even make many ICE vehicles by then. My prediction is only HD trucks will still be ICE by then. If you want to run gas forever you better buy a couple new vehicles and put them in storage soon.

Aside from a catastrophe, I'm betting my 2019 with just over 18k miles will still be on the road.
