Honest question. Toyota has been loyal to the leaf-sprung rear axle for a long time. It’s seems certain the 4G Taco will be coil-spring with links, so a major change.

What are your thoughts about the end of leaf sprung pickups from Toyota? Will you miss their no-nonsense simplicity or do you welcome a coil and link set-up?

New Tundra drives much more sensible over uneven bumps.

The biggest problem is cost. These new tacos are gonna be pricier than ever.

Leaf springs have a place in commercial, but its time to get them out of smaller trucks.

Now we gotta get adjustable pan hard bars or shame the spacer lift guys that have shifted axles!

A few additions to make me feel cool.
Leaf spring, it is leaf spring and coil springs in the rear of a pickup is shit. They drive great but do not handle loads and tow like crap.

Don’t matter that much really. The Taco leafs are a bit fragile in their current form.

Eh. I have no hard opinions on it. But I'm also in no real hurry to buy a 4G either.

I'm just disappointed that I won't have anything to chain my bike to in the future.

I feel, on some level, the leaf springs are doing a lot for us that we might not appreciate. It’s certainly hassle-free. No worn-out bushings, no limiter straps to prevent your spring from falling out……I dunno……it’s a pretty simple and rugged system. Guess that’s why it has lasted since horse-buggies.

You chain your bike to your leaf springs? Doesn’t the bike get scratched as you drag it behind?

I believe Ram uses rear springs. I wasn't aware the new Tundra had them, but I never paid much attention to it as it never really appealed to me. I also have no interest in the 4th gen Tacoma from what I've read thus far. Those rear drums need to go though. :crapstorm:

I like the drums and leafs on my Tacoma. Same tech as my Amish buggy so they are both easy to work on.

The only reason the 3rd gen has leafs is because there was no competition for tacoma in the early mid teens. So they simply slapped a new grill on it, gave it a gear and a sienna engine, called it good.

Now that Toyota is concerned about sales and competition it will be much more enjoyable, although expensive.

The corolla and Camry have improved immensely since Kia and Hyundai started stealing sales.

^^^ This is based on the concept that coils are obviously better, but more costly, but I’m not so sure it’s that simple. Even very cheap cars have coils on all corners.

There are some advantages to leafs I can think of. Maybe those advantages no longer matter?

I've worked on Toyotas for a long time.

The leaf spring is the weak point of every truck going back a long time.

I even owned a 1st gen 4runner with inverted springs. They were pick up springs with no reinforcement so they famously wore fast.

The 1st gen tacoma and tundra had probably the least amount of problems with springs that I've seen, but 2nd gen tundra had loads of issues and drove terrible even when new.

When leaf springs were breaking on these trucks they were rupturing gas tanks, brake lines and abs harnesses.

The issues go on and on.

I've never changed a rear coil on a 4runner. Ever.

Pfft, I was hoping Toyota would bring out a special edition 3rd gen with leaf springs at all corners.
