What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Started the day by putting a hole in my radiator.




Good excused to get the shorter one i guess.

Then swapped up the UCA bushings and checked over the front suspension.



Now starting to clean the front end up a bit.



Have a new grille and corner lights coming too.


Question - these are LED projectors and a want to use the factory wiring. Does anyone know an easy wire to wire them in?

 

Anyone have experience with Bishko manuals? They're advertised as OEM-authorized reprints. Are they true copies of the OE shop manuals? Any drawbacks to them over an OE manual?

I know there are PDFs floating around, but sometimes paper is nice and the Bishko reprints are comparable in price to a used shop copy on ebay, without the oil stains.

 

got a steam cleaner and did the seats before (R) and after (L)


picked up a new (to me) grille and side marker lights for a whole new look (previously had the chrome stock grille)

aaaand tore out all the interior, and cleaning it up (so much dirt and dust after 20 years) sound deadening in progress and will hopefully have a chance to finish it up this week

 

For anyone that's wondering. A 5VZ timing belt idler pulley center makes a perfect seal driver for spark plug tube seals. It has a perfect register cut in the edge of it for catching the edge of the seal and driving it in straight. Thanks @turbodb for leaving this old one in my scrap metal box.

 

Sprayed Raptor Liner in the bed. Finally got rid of all the surface rust and scratches.

Wet okole, tan with black piping and a trd insignia they have a code for you just gotta ask. They are sweet.

 

After wiring up front/side/rear off-road lights tackled some interior stuff. New double-din radio and threw the cb into the ash tray slot. Went smoothly everything fit in great, much better than expected. Really happy with how the radio looks and functions.

 

Took off my pap cap and installed this DNA hard tri fold and a pop lock for the tailgate for as cheap as this was im very impressed with the quality

 

Are there any fuel filter suggestions? I’m running a wix, but I’m getting horrible mpg recently and I’m going to start replacing the basic things.

 

I'm running a Wix, it's 10micron... Doesn't get much better than that for filters that fit in the OEM location.

According to the factory... Never. I've always done them every hundred thousand.

 

I used to run mine till 100k,
Now I shoot for 50k after opening up mine for curiosity at 90k

 

Troubleshot motor install crank no start. No sound from fuel pump gas gauge don't work No pressure in fuel rail when loosening banjo. Fires right up with starting fluid sprayed. Putting fuel pump in tommorrow. Hopefully last obstacle to complete motor for my little rebuild project.

 

Are they not OEM supported? As in not ground switched?

If not. I just got a genetic relay switch harness that plugs into one of the OEM head light plugs. Then runs new plugs to the new head lights that are standard switched off the second relay. Think I just got it off eBay. Will look later for you.

If the stock is ground switched I should be able to make it work.

They're just shitty LED projectors I retrofitted. Trying to figure out how to keep the light on low & high, but trigger the shutter for high beams, and don't want to add a bunch of extra wiring.

 

Ah. Projectors don't have a high and low beam per say. The bulb is always outputting the same. It's just changing the shutter. That's why you hate everyone with projectors when they are above you and your below the cut off. Because it's full beam power.

But I haven't done that shit. So not really much help.

 

Ground switch depends on if you have DTRL or not. It sounds like you're going down a path like I did when I wired off the headlights to get the off-road lights to come on with the brights automatically.
