what bugs me is surely thats cut and dried , either the mechanics touched the car or they didn't so race control should be able to sort that out with 30 laps to go in the race

 

Defiantly should be a penalty for the mechanic touching a car when it's banned.
What if a car got banged up, and there is a red flag so repairs can't happen. Maybe a team decides the will pay the $ penalty and happily fix there car when it's banned because now there driver doesn't get penalized or a slow car.

It's only 1 driver, but is a team sport at the high levels.

 

Ugggh, they need to make a rule that the mechanics stand away until the 5 seconds is up then they can move towards the car.

The FIA should really just add the penalties to the time at the end of the race.

Alonso served the 5 seconds which didn’t matter under the yellow flag because they all get bunched up anyways. So did he really serve the penalty?

The 10 second penalty was probably a way for the FIA to circle back and make the fans believe the FIA rules are effective.

 

Seems consistent with Ocon last race. The rules are fine until someone breaks them.

I'm reading that as when the FIA make a decision they have to tell the driver about the decision within 25 minutes of said penalty, not they need to make a decision within 25 minutes.

 

Nah, just teach the mechanics how to count till 5. FFS they don't even need to count cause I'm sure head mechanic is telling them when to go through their headsets.

I think they can count to 5 but it's a proximity thing. Dunno, they need to practice this on all teams it seems.
