I also just used the Redline MT-LV in my transfer case. I used the 75-85W in both differentials. I like RedLine oils.
Anyone else use the MT-LV in their transfer case? Any issues? My only concern is that it seemed a little thin.

    Thanks

I always use amsoil personally but any synthetic 75w should be good, but yeah be sure and at least check it every 30k, 15k is preferable. synthetics should last longer than 15k (MAYBE more than 30k) but at least until you've established the right check and change intervals based on YOUR driving I'd go 15k checks first. but really, any synthetic of appropriate weight you should be good. I have no clue if the dealership stuff is synthetic or not but it comes in a can, like a can of beans kind of can. Check prices, just make sure it's synthetic for best protection, no matter how long or short it lasts it's always better than conventional

I bought a manual pump from big box store, I think auto stores sell the same one. They had two but I got the one that had larger tubing cause 75w is THICK. Bought a separate one for the transmission ws fluid, same problem when replacing.

oh and gloves and plug seals...brake cleaner or soap and water for cleanup. man I think I'm still smelling old diff fluid, worst part XD

Trouble with amsoil atf, you really don't know which type they sell works correctly in these tacoma auto's. I knew a guy that used some amsoil atf in his gen1 tacoma that was suppose to be rated for it, yet it really did a number to the transmission. Ace transmission had to rebuild it.

Do transmissions only go bad because of incorrect fluid? Genuine question. If so, use the correct fluid and be guaranteed you’ll never have a transmission problem? I hope that’s true.

I bought LT 75W-85 GL-5 from Amazon, for about $42 for a Liter, in case you ever want to go back to OEM.20230319_185017.jpg Screenshot_20230319_185036_Amazon Shopping.jpg

Well for one you can likely eliminate the oem atf as a transmission issue if you have problem. Using the wrong fluid can take a few thousand miles, or more before a problem shows up.

I find that claim highly suspect, I need to be clear I've never made a cent from amsoil nor has anyone in my family. I don't work for them, I don't sell their products, I just use them. I base my opinion of them on 3rd party, independent, MULTIPLE oil analysis' FROM A LAB and many of those come from people who build high performance engines. I've seen laboratory grade tests and youtube grade tests and their products beat everyone...so I use them.

Again, I find it highly suspect. And you have ONE story? On that they're garbage? Ok well TOYOTA WS has MORE stories of failures but you taught them...ok...that makes zero sense.

That's like the dude that posted on here that had a transmission blow up on his 3rd gen, low mileage, and was saying toyota is now garbage...folks here said "dude that's not common". So sorry but I go off of the whole history not a one off so excuse me if I seem to be dismissing your claim there, and I do dismiss it, wholly, but that's weak evidence.

as to "you don't know which" well they CLEARLY state not only what vehicles but also grades their fluid matches, they also clearly give all the tech data you could ask for. so it's sheer willful ignorance if you can't figure it out...or stupidity. forgive my bluntness but I lack tact...I'm not always an asshole, I swear, but I am on occasion.

ws has a certain viscosity, their signature fuel efficient variant matches that viscosity. This is stated in their data sheets; pdf files can be read with a free reader btw as you do need a pdf reader to view those sheets. But pretty sure the website stats "ws" on that...double check of course before ordering.

I have their ws in my tacoma, NO issues, I drive more than most on this forum, 44k a year, no issues. I put it in a 10k transmission I got from a JUNK YARD and have put nearly 60k on it, no issues, last one had toyota ws no issues (till the damn deer impact made a t-cooler line rip and lost all my fluid), I use their t4 grade in all my non-ws vehicles, NEVER had an issue.

for t4 you just need the signature series.

I use their motor oil, which outperforms EVERYTHING in EVERY category ESPECIALLY wear AND longevity (including royal purple) by a VERY significant degree.

I also use their coolant...never checked it's performance but it's rated to 90k.

You use whatever you like, no one is telling you not to do that...what I AM telling you is you have a beyond less than weak argument. Do you even know the FULL history of that truck one off story you boast about? Come on man, use that brain a little better!!!

Say what you want, but I've had my own experience using an aftermarkets atf in my tundras transmission when doing 4 qt drain, and refill. I had to get a complete transmission flush to get my tundra shifting as it did. From that point on I only used toyota atf, and never had another issue. Toyota told me to never mix another manufactures atf with theirs, even if it claims it's compatible.

That’s why I drained and refilled multiple times and processed 16 quarts through the system to effectively rid the truck of the Toyota fluid.

I serviced all gear oil today. So I'm totally for amsoil. After 30+k miles my transfer case was great looking and rear end was great . Front end was about 60k mi. I've could have went longer, but doesn't hurt to keep fluid fresh. After 200k mi lifted I finally got to taking out my needle bearing today. Replaced with ECGS bushing. Had all the tools and was a breeze , other than the dang cv slowing me down. I borrowed a slide hammer and it was junk. Ended up using a couple of crow bars . So I will tell you that you will be fine using Amsoil 75-90w gear oil in front diff, transfer case, and rear diff. I'm og owner and do most of my servicing. I drive roughly 40+k miles a year for work and pleasure. Been all over the west coast and Midwest USA . Any questions pm me .

A buddy of mine that operates a large repair shop uses the BMW, or shell equiv. for these transfer cases....says he's had no issues.

Thanks for posting. I just put 75w-90 Amsoil Severe Gear oil in my Tcase so glad to hear others have success using it over the Toyota 75W.
The oil that came out looked brand new so hopefully i should be able to do 60k intervals instead of 30k going forward

what negative experience, specifically, have you had mixing with amsoil? *edit* you actually said "aftermarket drain and fill" so what fluid did you use???

I'm not being an ass I'm very curious as I've mixed and my transmission was filled with toyota ws from a junk yard and will soon be refilled with amsoil so I am very curious. I've never heard of such an issue...amsoil specs exceed toyota ws so this seems off. thus proof is required. I only know of toyota ws and amsoil signature fuel efficient for this transmission and not familiar with any other certified fluids...did you use those or some other? I need more info for your claims to be validated, as I'm sure other members would require as well

You also said "flush", what do you mean exactly? for some a flush is a pressurized system which is known to damage ANY transmission, to me a flush could also mean multiple drain and fills with 15 min runs in between or even connecting one line from the cooler to a fill container with fresh fluid and one line going to a drain container...sorry but MUCH more information is required to validate your claim and any neglect invalidates your claim to be honest...facts and data are all I care about, not anecdotes and feewings

    LS1 swap with nitros.
Just did my rear diff using this… $50/4 quarts on Amazon and no need for a pump with the bag design.

sorry no comment on transfer case fluid as I’m a loser 2wd.

I use the Redline 75W MT-LV Its the proper weight and a GL4 which I believe is what it calls for.

I've checked it out. It's very similar in specs to the toyota transfer case fluid, and should be fine for most everyone. From what I've been told the bmw 75w fluid a buddies shop has been using is actually ravanol, so thats ok too.

Hey, you're still active, and it's been years. Has anything on your driveline grenaded itself yet? If no complaint's I'm gonna do the Ravenol and Redline too.
