Second guessing suspension purchase

I recently bought a new to me 2015 toyota tacoma TRD sport 4x4. It came with some nice 33 inch mud terrains and great looking wheels. However, the truck was lifted via a spacer lift front and rear.

I reached out to my local shop explaining i wanted to do a real proper suspension lift on my truck, and that it was on spacers/blocks front and rear.

I figured I would trust their knowledge, but upon further research looks like this is only an upgrade for my front suspension. I am also wanting to put a RTT in the rear and I'm concerned about sagging. I tried to express my concern to the guy i was chatting with but he brushed me off and said it would be fine. Thoughts? I'm guessing i could add an AAL if i had to with the tent. I just don't want to waste money on a kit ill want to change later. I would appreciate any help, as Im brand new to the world of truck suspension.

I don’t have a kit yet, but continue to circle to the 5100’s and one AAL in the rear. I really don’t want much of a lift- just better ride than stock SR and less sag with loads/ towing. The stock springs are pathetic. They squat with a very minor load.

I want to be clear though- I love this truck.

That is a lift kit using the stock rear shocks and springs with leaf blocks. Find a different shop.

In my opinion i’d think you’d be more satisfied with the 6112’s. I have the 5100’s due to a back order but I wish i would’ve found another place that had the 6112’s.

 

6112/5100 would satisfy your needs if you’d like to use bilstein. Great setup imo. Was my first choice.

 

5110s are for the rear correct? Im wondering if I could just add those later.

 

It will sit high in the front with this set up. Unless your leaf springs are recent an add a leaf will sag quickly.

Id suggest putting in a full leaf spring rated for more weight or you’ll just be wasting it on a bandaid add a leaf.

If you plan on loading up the truck a spring pack should be first priority. 5100's are a good entry level shock and budget friendly. be realistic on how you want to use your truck and buy parts accordingly. An AAL does not really increase payload and the truck will sag. Buying quality parts once is better than buy things twice. ask me how I know

I think a multileaf AAL will suit your needs. A quality one like Icon or Headstrong should do what you need. If you feel the 1.5" it offers isn't enough you can add a small block.

 

Yes, for the rears. You can definitely add later on. Would recommend buying and installing at once.

2015 DCSB 4x4 TRD OR, 2 1/2 " lift, Bilstein 5100's OME 885X's and OME Dakar CS047R Leaf Packs and OME CB drop kit.

The front they recommended will work fine but if you are going to have weight in the back I suggest you should change out to spring pacs on the back. I speak from experience. I have a shell 200LBS. plus gear ECT.
I first put in AAL's in the rear and it saged :-( I then changed them out to Medium duty OME spring packs. So much better off and on road to support the extra weight.

I wish I would of done it the first time.

 

this is pretty much the exact set up that I have but with JBA UCA. It was budget friendly and has been working great so far.

Maybe I'm missing something but the shop recommended lift is the exact same as what you already have spacers and blocks. Please don't let some random shop take your money for the same shit you already have. If you want different coil overs/ shocks look for those, as mentioned above. For a suspension lift you should be looking into rear leafs/add a leaf at least and coil overs, not spacers or blocks.

Not trying to be a dick, if you want the look of a lift on the cheaper side then spacers and blocks work, just don't let anyone tell you thats a suspension lift.

 

If you’re going to add a rtt I would get an actual leaf pack instead of an aal, for the rear it’s the leaf springs that give you the lift instead of the shock, I have 6112s up front and am happy with them.

 

The 6112 is a coil over? Its a strut with a spring. Not sure how you came to that conclusion?

It does have the top hat that adds .5 inches of lift. My current set up is a spacer shoved on top of some old Bilstein's, no added performance and not great for the suspension components.

 

thank you for this clarification. I always thought it was the shock that added lift. If i got leaf springs that added 3 inches of lift could i get rid of the blocks in the rear?
