I had no idea which size so I ended up buying a kit that had 3 of them. Worked out though because one was correct. Haha

As long as the reg can deliver 150psi you should be good.

My theory is that since there is such high pressure and so little volume of nitrogen in the res, the long hose I have on my rig, lowers the pressure reading when I go to check them at a later date. Since I'm still pretty green at tuning, I ended up buying a good gauge from Schmidty Racing so I have accurate readings right at the res.

Good call on these new shafts. Looks like they are going to work much better. Now if the rain will stop I can throw them on and cut my bump cans off (again) and move them up to accommodate this extra travel.

Tacoma footprint tends better to a welded eyelet.

Yep. It was fine when I was limited by the wheel well but without that the big rod end was the limiting factor. Once it’s all done I’m going to send some pics to Dirt King. I tried explaining to them before but I don’t think they understood what I meant because they kept saying I had the wrong length shock. Figures they probably just thought I was some idiot with wrong parts because I got the shocks from DSM and not them (which I know I am an idiot but still). They were still helpful though.

Both are 8”. My problem is the shock was bottoming out due to the large rod end but it still had plenty of uptravel left with both room and my coilover. Since I pretty much got rid of that entire obstruction it should be good now.

Just make sure the shock isn’t bottoming out internally when resetting your bumps.

So I was going to cycle the suspension again to make sure that didn’t happen, but didn’t even think about the shock bottoming before the rod end hit.

Just went and cycled the shock. Looks like it’s not going to be worth moving the bump for this difference. Maybe I’ll just count it as additional safety margin for frame flex and not get the extra uptravel I was hoping for.

But won’t you loose that 1/4” in droop

I guess I could ask DSM if they can have king do it. Or order another set of them but x shorter.

I won’t. I’m running stock CV’s so they bind before my shocks reach full droop (by quite a bit). I just wanted more uptravel for two reasons. So I could lower the truck. I’d say it’s not much taller than a stock one now. More bump clearance. I used to be pretty much riding the bumps but now I have close an inch maybe between the arm and the bump.

Looks like you could cut down 3/4” of shaft. With a 2:1 ratio that’s 1.5” at the wheel

They probably left that extra shaft length expecting him to install the rubber bump that so many manufactures like to throw on there.

Well looks like I’m ordering some new shafts.

I was surprised when I cut one of those off. Thought it was just going to be a quick snip. I had to break out a cut off wheel. Wasn’t expecting it to be mostly metal.

@erok81 I wasn’t following but are you not able to rework the upper tabs? Wouldn’t simply mounting them higher up net you the up travel since you have travel to sacrifice at droop?

I don’t think I could cut the upper mount off. If I had a plasma cutter I probably could. But there isn’t enough room to get a grinder in there. Otherwise that would be probably be easier.

The two shafts are exactly the same eye to end. Just the welded one has more opportunity for more uptravel but to get that travel it needs to be cut down. Leaving it as is won’t change anything. Only difference will be visible at full comp because instead of the the blue rod end being against the shock body I’ll just have some extra shaft showing. The bumps in their current position will stop the travel before the shaft bottoms. Just like with the old rod ends.

Unless I am missing what you are saying, which is definitely possible.

Nope, you're right. My statement was skewed based off what I was seeing in the picture.

I emailed DSM to see what king says. But for now I’m just going to run it as is. I’ve got a list of more important things to fix first.
