Well , not so much a dive as he saw a hit coming and turned to take it in the numbers , which lead to a 5 min major for boarding .

No fine or suspension for Chara...

Can we talk about more important matters now? Like how Vancouver is going to flail against a very hot Sharks team tomorrow.

Everything that happened to chara was a good call. The major penalty was given, and because he wasn't intentionally attacking him he doesn't deserve any additional game suspensions. As for canucks and sharks its gonna be close. I call sharks for the win. Sorry oz.

    Don King here.

Can I broker an avatar bet with Pay-per-View revenue options?

There's a big pile of cash out there. Let's divvy it up ;)

    Man.

I see Chara goes 255, but Pacioretty is no small guy at 212.

I never would have guessed it did that kind of damage.

His face hit the glass at about 20mph... Combined weight is around 470lbs between the two of them. He's lucky he still has a head.

I'm sure a goal-end view would have shown the impact of his body and head to glass.

From the one shot posted I saw the body contact, but didn't see his face and head hit the glass.

    Get well soon...

It's pretty simple , his head was driven into a 90 degree corner of plexiglass .

    My bad.

I looked at the vid once and I was focusing on the body contact and didn't see his head snap back from the plexiglass.

On the second go-round I see his head hit the vertical glass divide.

The non-suspension makes sense as well. I don't think you could determine that Chara deliberately ran his head into the corner...

I'll never forget one of the Cleveland Crusaders (WHA) games I went to as kid.

Dad and I had seats around 15 rows up close to the blue line. We are around 45 minutes early and as we head to our seats, there is a small group of people crowded around a fan near our seats.

During some pre-game practice, the fan had been hit with a puck. I'll never forget the bloody towel and the whole situation.

Needless to say, during play at any hockey game I am ALWAYS watching the ice...

It's funny when they show the old highlights and you remember how low the glass used to be , remember linesman Ray Scampinello used to grab the top of the glass and climb the boards to get out of the way , ha , that glass on the sides was like 4' tops above the dasher .

The end glass used to only be about 7' , I don't know how many times I remember the commentators saying " Oh No ! It appears a fan has been hit by the puck ! " and the camera would pan to the ushers trying to help somebody with blood pouring out of them .

Ahh , the good old days .

The real issue with that hit is the design of the rink, either move that part back behind the boards further like it is in some other rinks, or remove the glass between the benches.

Anyone worried about the players yelling at each other from the benches... they do that shit on the ice, what is the difference?

    http://www.team990.com/sound_bytes/view/session/team_990_audio_clips/1/

Not that the NHL should be ruled by it's sponsors, but this hit is having a bigger impact: http://www.torontosun.com/sports/hockey/2011/03/09/17558366.html

That still picture is deceiving though... chara didn't make contact with the head...
