    No, you are just pulling axle and putting everything back... Don't even have to remove either ball joint if you do it the way I wrote it up in the thread a while ago.

    Sorry to revive an old post. Do you know if the needle bearing is also an issue on the 4Runner? My 2023 4Runner ORP arrives in a couple months so I am trying to prepare myself.

    Sure is. Has been a problem since 05+ Tacoma, 2010+ 4runner and all FJ cruisers.

    I just did one on a 23 4Runner few weeks ago.

    Got this done today. I wasn't too bad and took about 3.5 hours. We were definitely going slow and being overtly careful, and lot of that time was just getting organized. We managed to do it without disconnecting the tie rod which saved a little time. However that prevented us from moving the hub further out of the way, which made a tight working space for removing the axle and bearing even tighter.

    Speaking of the axle, it was a huge pain to break free. We tried several tool combinations (several types of hammers and screw driver, pry tool, etc.), but we eventually managed to do it with baby sledge and wide point chisel. Removing the needle bearing with ECGS tool was actually super smooth and we managed not to damage it during the extraction.

    Getting the ECGS bushing in took a bit of work. We had the install tool, but the couldn't swing the hammer far because the area around the LCA is tight. I ended up holding the end of a long piece of rebar against the ECGS tool while my buddy hit the other end of the rebar well outside the wheel well. After setting up that arrangement it went in quick.

    The axle also took a bit of an effort to get back in but once we got it engaged in the spider gear it slipped right in. Everything after that was pretty smooth.

    And the best part... no more vibrations!

    Removing the bump stop gives you just enough room to hit the installation tool with a hammer from the back (for the next one you do haha)!
