All the time, why would I need to lock it?

I know the main point has somewhat drifted by now but I was actually thinking about this topic just recently. From knowing people with the Ford step thing (pictured above) and the GMC where the tailgate folds a bunch of ways etc, I am kind of glad that Tacos don't have that. I just feel like they are just inviting dirt to get it there and cause an issue. Just 1 more thing to worry about. I put dirtbikes and mountain bikes in and out of my bed all of the time. I am already worried about mud getting everywhere. Those gimmick tailgates just aren't for me. I like our tailgate. 1 thing that I would like it how Chevys have that notch in the corner of the bumper to step on. I think that is useful and doesn't over-complicate things. Just my opinion.

Boy that Ford bed looks like it going some where to scratch and rust! That's for people who just think it's cool to own a truck.

I guess for the same reason none of the other manufactures did. One thing that seems to be missing from this thread a simple hose clamp makes a pretty good theft deterrent works on all makes.

The Tacoma tail gate works because it's designed for the vehicle.

The Ford step and handle in the tail gate works because it's a lot higher step into the bed for people that aren't 6'3" and 30 years old.

The Chevy step in bumper should be used by more.

The Gay Man's Chevy swiss army knife tail gate...gimmick

I'm 77 and 6 foot I stand on the rear tire and hike my self into the bed. Standard truck bed height runs 19-22".

I like that as well. No moving parts and simple. Probably easy to get around that patent too to make something similar

They should let you take off the pole so you can use it as a walking stick.

Think that bed is aluminum. Had one as a work truck we poked a lot of holes in that thing.

Totally off topic, but I’ve always intensely disliked John Leguizamo and he definitely brought all of that to the screen in that role. One of my favorite movies to this day

In 20 years those tailgate with all the fold out crap will be falling apart, rusting and seized. The Taco tailgate will be pristine operate as designed.

If you want some stupid ass, fancy tailgate, buy a different truck. I bought a Toyota because it’s designed by Toyota, they have a heck of a lot more common sense than Ford, Dodge and Chevy.

Also, hand cranked windows as the $500 option and electric power windows as the $1500 option. Ability to roll windows down in either fashion is $9.99 a month.

just watched the latest Chevy Colorado tailgate innovations

It’s to distract you from the poor reliability- and you fell for it ;-)
