I'm noticing the same thing. I may give wool wax a shot. I was also considering cosmoline or similar.

Only downside of the black is hiding the cool kid teal springs. I may have to be judicious in application.

Everyone join the cult of Wool Wax. Goes on great, doesn't come off, doesn't taste very good but 2/3 ain't bad. Seriously though it's kept my previosly from Texas truck rust free going on 3 years up here in salt land.

I had ordered a Woolwax kit last fall, but unfortunately didn't get it on before the salt hit the roads. Haven't had a chance to apply it yet. Good to know that I should probably at least do the frame and slider surface when I install mine.

Yes, if you haven't been over to the Moab thread lately you may not know that I ordered a set from RCI.

Yeah, I don't want to cover my lime green springs! Will have to keep them clean when I get around to a full coverage application. Woolwax does offer a "Straw/Clear" color. No idea what that looks like...

The shop I had spray my truck with woolwax pulled the plugs on the rockers and sprayed inside them, also inside my tailgate and doors.
He spent a few hours getting everything nook, cranny, and cavity sprayed

I wonder if our carpet cleaning van would work for that. It gets close to 200 degrees, but only about 600 psi

That's what I'm here for, the mods and the gear.
This is the perfect timing for my question! Have skids, hope to have them on by mid-April, but will depend on my shoulder. They're already powder coated but is there anything I should do to them or treat them with prior to installing?

For skids I'd say no, but would suggest anti seize on the bolts.

Always prefer paint for skids/sliders for touch up, but if they're already powder coated then no big deal.

If I were to get bare steel sliders, how do you paint them?
    Primer then black rustoleum?

That'd be fine - should have them either sandblasted or do so yourself with 40 grit for adhesion before primer/paint.

I've used Steel-It paint and have liked it quite a bit, but it's expensive.

Ace hardware self etching primer, then their primer/paint combo. Stuff holds up super well

As for the hardware, absolutely put anti-seize on it before you thread it through. Future you will thank present you.

This. I used Rustoleum self etching primer then some flat black. I did not scuff up the metal before just wipped down with acetone. The self etch primer bites into the base material.

This is how I painted my sliders, skid plates, and rear bumper. Holds up real well. I just do touch-ups where the tires fling rocks against and trail scuffs.

I painted my in-the-raw sliders with rustoleum. Wiped 'em down 3 times with acetone to get them super clean. 3rd time the rags came out absolutely clean. No black residue at all. A coat of primer and 3 coats of paint. Winter came and after 3 storms the paint was blasted off to bare metal. I redid them with the POR-15 three step process.. That held up well over this past winter. Only places I have any rust is where the POR 15 coating was scraped off from playing on the rocks. Same with the skids. My nephew swears by the Steel-It. He says it is more durable than POR 15.

Oh there will be some mods all right
I understand if you guys wouldn't be interested in signing this seeing as it's not very close to most of you but it would mean a whole bunch to me if you guys did sign it. This land was 100% open to the public since my dad was a kid and also when I was growing up. It's a beautiful area and there are many memories for my family back there. Then it was purchased and gated off to where you could only walk in. Recently it was going to be purchased by the state of Wisconsin and reopened for us to enjoy. Some council member decided that instead of beautiful public land open for everyone that she would veto it because she wanted the land to be available to be developed and or purchased in the future instead of staying public. Again no pressure but kind of some pressure lol https://pelicanriver.org/about/#/26/
