Any reason you'd want to add the Prinsu? The L track is already a very capable rack system by itself.

Thank you for getting back to me and more than happy to hear about better options or opinions.

I want to have the ability to mount a variety of equipment on the roof. This could include lumber, roof box, stand-alone plastic totes, maxtrax, mountain bikes etc. I thought that a rack like a Prinsu would support a variety of options.

I see that AT overland offer 70" rhino tracks. Perhaps that is the simpler approach to then mount a rack?

    Thanks

I always hauled my Maxtrax up there, as well as lumber on occasion. My Habitat, when purchased with the L-Track, came with three moveable cross bars that could be mounted anywhere on the L-track. I placed two slightly further apart than my stack of Maxtrax, and simply placed the Maxtrax on the roof of the Habitat. Kayak straps to hold them down between the cross bars and they fit just about perfectly between the L-track rails so they couldn't go anywhere. This did leave some rub marks on top of my Habitat from the Maxtrax, but wasn't a big deal to me.

Lumber was easier to haul on top of the Habitat than in the bed of my Tacoma, lol. The three cross bars worked well for me.

I also found that placing all three bars spaced out near the back half of the Habitat allowed me to more easily close the Habitat without using the normal lifting bar/pole. I stood on a stool under the open Habitat, pushed it upwards, stepped to the tailgate and just kept pushing and moving to each incremental bar to push it up and over. Personally thought this was easier than the pole, but might not be for everyone.

Anyone ever mount solar panels on the top of a Habitat?

I don't think they'd be all that useful there unless you put them on a hinge system that flips them out so that they're facing up again after you open the Habitat. I have my panel on the roof rack over the cab--it takes up pretty much all the available space on the rack.

My main reason for solar is to charge my auxiliary battery. I understand they would be useless when the tent is deployed, but useful when it is folded up or driving down the road. My current topper has a solar panel that charges my auxiliary batter, runs my refrigerator and even charges the main battery when needed. I am just trying to talk myself into purchasing a habitat at this point.

Oh yeah you definitely have tons of real estate on top of the Habitat for putting panels up there.

I use a Goal Zero as my camping/accessory power battery and I have it setup to charge off of the truck while driving and charge off of a solar panel on the roof anytime--it adds to the charging along with the alternator while driving and takes care of charging exclusively while the truck is off.

You should totally get a Habitat, soo much room "upstairs" with the optional floor panels that it feels like sleeping on the floor of a small bus, and the panels make a great standing table when not in sleeping mode.

Why would you need to solar charge a battery while driving down the road, isn’t that what the alternator does?

My truck sits parked a lot. It is nice to have my batteries charged all the time.

Did this today! BedRug for Tacoma. Install was easy except for the screws that hold the cubbie, but so worth it for the finished look!IMG_20220721_172254_01.jpg

there's no harm in trying to convince yourself.

as long as you don't actually get one.

I have/had a Habitat. I loved it but was not overly impressed with the Tacoma aspect. The Tacoma is gone but the Habitat is still sitting in the garage waiting for its next home.

It's time for an upgrade. If anyone is looking for a
habitat i'm putting mine up for sale. Coming off my 2019 Tacoma double cab. Has the cab slider and the 12v system on the inside. I also have the awning that will attach to either side. Asking $9300 951-205-4112 David

For those who camp in cooler temps with their AT(or ANY brand for that matter)- is an anti-condensation mat under the factory mattress pad a good idea?

I noticed some rooftop tents(Tepui) sell one separately as an option. I've not noticed any condensation thus far with my Summit, but I've only had it since March and would like to camp well into Fall and possibly Winter(I bought the insulation package from AT).

    Thanks!

Looking for a habitat for a 3rd Gen Tacoma LB. Seeing if anything is out there before I just go AT myself.

Just a friendly PSA: firewood should be kept minimum of 15’ upwind from a fire pit.

Installed my homemade galley the other day. Just took a couple IKEA cabinets I wasn't using and screwed them together. Kept drawers in one side and cut a 10" diameter hole in the top of the other for the smallest RV sink I could find. Added some plumbing(found on Amazon), a couple Dometic Go Jugs and their AWESOME powered faucet!

    IMG_20220915_171020101_HDR.jpg
I took it for a trial-run this week and it worked great! Sink is small so there's always some water to mop off the top after washing hands or doing dishes, but the convenience is worth it. Also, the Go Jugs only hold 3 gallons each so even for just a couple nights I needed to refill.

We swapped our mattress out last year for a kingcamp air mattress and loved it. It was super comfortable but my wife and I hated not being able to move it out if the way to open up the entire bed space. Last week we had a custom mattress made. It's 4" foam and wrapped in a marine grade vinyl. We should be having some fitted sheets made for it soon.
