What’s the chance this rust fails my frame in 2 years?

I’ve seen all the rust posts. Have a couple years until my tacoma is out of the running for a new frame. Looking for any feedback on how bad this rust looks/if it appears if could rot through soon, based on others first hand experience. I chipped away some decent scale with the screwdriver the other night. It looks like the rust has really penetrated.

Like I said,if you don't take action NOW, you will be in trouble eventually.

If you do nothing, probably so.
Plenty of YouTube videos on managing rust on your frame, sanding, rustolium spray paint and then fluid film. All of them relatively cheap to do. You’re not lost yet but you need to get on it.

My concern is if I go trying to remedy it and it perforates, Toyota won’t cover me. I understand the gamble. Don’t do anything maybe get a replacement, maybe not.

I am in the same position, either hope for a frame replacement later or fix it now.
Leaning towards fixing it now myself

Where do you live? What part of the frame is it? I honestly don't think it looks THAT bad, especially considering the surrounding metal, but I live in NH where some might say it looks brand new.

Just from what I see, I don't PERSONALLY think it will rust through in just two years - but again, that might depend on where on the frame it is and where you live (like how much, if any, salt is used on the roads).

Toyota wants to see a 10mm hole visible to the naked eye without any kind of poking or scraping during the dealership inspection.

Mine "passed" right before the window closed and then less than a year outside of coverage a huge chunk like saltine crackers fell off.

I can't quite tell from your photo where on the frame that spot is, but the worst places are the boxed portions directly adjacent to the catalytic converters, where it typically rusts from the inside.

You might want to stick your arm up in there with a cat's paw or a flay prybar and see what comes off, and then give it a few good whacks with a hammer on the outside.

Also pay attention to the front body mounts - same deal, scrape and whack.

This is on the inside of C channel near the muffler. Directly on the other side of the frame is the rear body mount bracket I believe. It went from not bad to that pretty quickly, I’d say a year, which has me thinking she’s rolling pretty good now. Lotta road salt in Maine. Never fluid filmed or anything. Just rinsed as thoroughly as possible after every storm. Can also see where the rust is getting in between the layers on some of the edges in that area making them roll a bit.

Dealership inspected a few years ago, passed it, and put the frosting on it. The shit they put on is corroding big time underneath, pieces of the goop are starting to fall loose.

I’d be going over that entire frame especially passenger side rail with a ballpeen hammer. We all know the 10mm hole thing is Toyota bs. If it perforates from the hammer then it perforates. If a hole forms either way I’d let it look nice and rusty then drop by Toyota.

You just can’t go actually forcing a hole in non-rusted sections.

Did the chunk fall off at the area you described? The boxed area of frame? There’s not one bit of rust on the outside of the boxed area but I have no idea what’s happening inside.

Going by the single pic with no context, that looks like a weld? If so, no big deal.

Start stabbing at it with a screwdriver. The dealer needs to see a hole there that's 10mm. That's what I did and my passenger side frame turned into Swiss cheese.

Mine looked fine with that black shit (Noxudol) until it suddenly didn't.

Here's my thread about my frame. Typical Toyota/dealership BS until post 27 where the frame fails: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/frame-rust-dealership-shenans-and-saf-t-cap-install.663600/

Here’s the same spot from a little further out, showing more of the rail.

No, do not do htis....at all. Take it in and let them do it so you don't complicate your case. I would bet that they can punch trough that area now.
