What rear diff oil weight are you guys running? Especially for rears that have the slight howling noise.

    A howling noise in a 2023 truck?
I’m not sure I’d worry about the fluid weight.
I’d let the dealership worry about it?

My 2014 and current 2021 both howl. Just a thing. I just turn the radio up louder.

    My 2009 did not ironically.

I wouldn’t go anything more than 90 weight.
Honestly, I’d leave it alone and do fluid changes every 30k if not towing, or 15k if towing.

Guess it’s hit or miss in just trying to accept it as normal. I installed the old 16-18 dynamic frame dampners from that tsb years ago and it helped also installed sound deadner pads behind rear seat trim and that helped too. Seems as the weather warms up noise is also slightly going away I wonder if the diff just needs broken in

Nah, my truck is almost at 25K and the tone has not changed one bit. Fluid level is still good (checked by me, not just the dealer). Almost due for the differential changes, but I doubt anything will change.

Keep on motoring and enjoy it for many years! :fistbump:

What the hell is causing the noise? Just a diff that’s not setup properly? So weird

I’ve ridden in my buddy’s 2022 4x4 DCLB. His is quiet compared to my 07. Probably due to my AT tires but I didn't perceive his to be loud.

Nothing you can put in to fix that because... It is a resonance that causes the noise, not the rear diff itself. Meaning, the rear diff works with the springs which works with the shocks which causes the noise. Best you can do is insulate.
Run what the manual tells you to run.

    This. I used redline brand

Good price and seems to be working as well as OEM. I’m not repping the brand and or all mighty as the best. Just my personal experience with a fair priced product I decided to use.

It has nothing to do with it. There is a thread with 300 pages that proves it does not matter. It has non, it has a little or it has a lot. No rhyme or reason. Toyota fix was to insulate and isolate. Resonance is tough to fix.

Curious if there are any statistics on the noise complaints between the access and double cabs, or the 3.91 (auto) vs 4.30 (manual) ratios?

If I remember, the double cab was much more suspectable to the noise.
