Maybe I could've explained better. I dont actively attempt to do all of that list, just 1 every day. For me, the easiest one is to make 10 people smile due to the amount of people I interact with each day. On the weekends I tend to do the reading or the skill challenge since they are very similar. Been reading survival guides and old army training manuals on downtime.

Whew, I wasn’t sure how to fit all of that into a day. For example I did the math on 100 interactions… that sounds like a full day of shaking hands and kissing babies. I’ll agree the make 10 people laugh is attainable, also the learning and reading. 10k steps, I’m sure I could figure out something similar for a bicycle, not sure the ‘ol knee would put up with 10k steps/day. But 10k feet is almost 1.9 mi. 100k ft. is just under 19 mi. both reasonable in my mind.

The present the plow left at the end of the driveway yesterday sucked. I shoveled 2/3 of it, back was killing me and I needed to make a run anyway. In the hour it took me to get back home to finish, the snow went from wet and heavy to 30 pound ice cubes.

That's never a good time. This has been the first year in about a decade where I could have justified buying a snow blower

You'd be surprised how many interactions you have in a day, especially at work. Dropping files off at a coworkers desk and saying 'hello', that's one. Picking up papers off the printer but you walk past 3 cubicles and greet each one, pow. That's 3 more. Hit them again on the way back, boom 3 more. Bottom line, I'm just trying to spend more time away from the screen interactions and more time with real human interactions. I'm trying to be a good role model for my children to show them the importance of real human social contact. I don't want to raise my children to be glued to their technology, to show them how to be better humans and that starts with me. I need to lead by example, to set personal limits with my own technology time. I try to reinforce creativity and critical thinking, just start those tiny steps.

10k steps is on average, 5 miles depending on your gait. I park at the back of parking lots at the grocery for example or take the stairs instead of the elevator. Just small steps to stay healthy. It helps to have a smart watch or the podiatry (health tracker?) app on your phone to count your steps. I don't always have my phone in my pocket so it doesn't count quite a few of my daily steps but I cant see the justification of buying yet another device especially when funds are getting tighter, but you get the idea.

Thank you sir and everyone else that felt compelled enough to wish a stranger happy day of birth on the intrawebz. Had a great day, momma fixed green beans with bacon in em like I like, grilled a t-bone not much to complain about except I spent 8 hours at work. Even then I spent a few hours off base running some errands so no complaints.

Makes good sense, not sure that I reach the interaction goal but I’m probably 1/2 way there. Do dogs count? That would definitely help my stats. :D While I don’t have kids, I have always tried to set an example for my niece and nephew.

I also park at the back of the lot and take the stairs most of the time, but 10k steps/5mi would put me down for a few days. Two too many knees surgeries, don’t have much meniscus left. I used to climb mountains and backcountry ski like it was my only purpose in life. Was out in the mountains 45 + weekends a year for most of my 20’s and 30’s. But the last surgery was at age 37 and the doc said congratulations you’ve got osteoarthritis, plan on a knee replacement down the road. So mountain biking is my jam now, as much for my mental health as physical.

I get what your saying though as we start to practice these things they become habit. Similar to what Admiral McRaven said in a UT commencement speech:

“If you make your bed every morning you will have accomplished the first task of the day. It will give you a small sense of pride, and it will encourage you to do another task and another and another. By the end of the day, that one task completed will have turned into many tasks completed. Making your bed will also reinforce the fact that little things in life matter. If you can't do the little things right, you will never do the big things right.

And, if by chance you have a miserable day, you will come home to a bed that is made — that you made — and a made bed gives you encouragement that tomorrow will be better.

If you want to change the world, start off by making your bed.”
