Had the ripp supercharger coil pack for about a year and yesterday into work had a CEL come on, replaced spark plugs and checked gap at work, installed back in and took to toyota immediately and they mentioned I was getting a cylinder 6 misfire. Anyone have any insight on what I could do on my end tech said to drive it for the weekend and get some dielectric grease in the coils.

What was the code? If it is actually a misfire, try swapping 2 coils see if the code moves

Put the computer on it and was able to detect the misfire code from cylinder 6 and was able to get it to act up. He swapped out the coil with a new toyota coil and it didn't do it. Had me drive it and it did it again when I got into work.

That would have been amazing info for the first post lol. Anything else?

Also if it wasnt the coil (assuming new coil was good) what does this thread have to do with your Ripp coil packs like the title says?

This is an important piece of information. I installed the RIPP coil packs right when they were first released for the gen 2 taco and have had zero issues (unlike the accel coils… had 2 fail in 2 months)

No he ended up putting the ripp supercharger coil back in. I already contacted ripp superchargers and they are sending me a whole new set of coils. I work on engines for a living and noticed it seemed like a cylinder misfire the only thing to me is it's intermittent. It ran good for about 30 to 45 minutes then you will notice the misfire out of no where. And then back to normal. At first I thought hmm could be IAC but checked it with an ohm meter and had signal coming from it. Taking it back to the dealership and gonna have them do a injectors clean as well as oil change and clear the codes I am picking up a new coil in the morning until the new coils from ripp come in.

Hmmm. Do keep us posted. Your symptoms sound exactly like the symptoms I was seeing with the accel coils. Glad to hear that RIPP was willing to send you a replacement set of coils.

Boost, armor, lights, big tires, no savings.
Being that the Toyota coil packs have an outstanding reliability record and are more than adequate for the power levels that the 1GR can make according to professional tuners, along with URD knowing for many years that the Accel coil packs give issues as stated on their website, and the RIPP version having no independent Dyno testing to show improvements, only butt dyno reporting, why take the risk?
To each their own, but this does not seem like an area to mess with.

Got with my tuner and mentioned that the truck needs to be tuned and will never have the issues of a misfire again. Gonna get it tuned when I get it back from the dealership. Luckily the dealer isn't charging me anything for it.

So it had the problem on Ripp coil, Toyota tech put in a Toyota coil with no issue, then reinstalled the Ripp coil and sent you on your way with the Ripp installed and then you had problems again? If I understand this right, I think it’s fairly obvious what you need to do.

I've sent three of my buddies for referrals so I'll get a good bit off normal price is 500 he's charging me 300 and I'll be doing the file he has specific for my truck. He got the serial number off the ecm and was able to get a specific tune file for it. It's the new yotaworx tune. Which I have read good things about.

Regardless of tune... put the stock coils back on the truck.

Lots of similar issues to yours. Seems most believe RIPP coil packs to be nothing more than snake oil. Throw your OEM ones back in and never look back. The only dyno "evidence" presented is from the company trying to sell you the product. Major red flag IMO. There has yet to be a single independent dyno test published to back their claims.
Just my two cents. At the end of the day you can spend your money on whatever you want.

I strongly agree with you on this, being I've done hours of research and have seen no evidence of there being any dyno proven test to be done on either of the 3.5 in the 3rd gens and as well as the 4.0l

I don't have a tune on the truck yet, when I replace the coils I will be getting a tune done.
