When they offered it to me I questioned the guy and asked if I was buying a Ford or a Toyota.

Just added toolbox and roof-rack to haul my fishing boat 100's of miles into the backwoods every week. Goodrich K02s, Bilstein 5100 front and back, no lift.
I paid $2200 for third party warranty that covered more than the Toyota warranty.

Before 100k (km) warranty, my front brakes were done. In just one really bad mud trip it seized the calipers and wore through the rotors. In one day. Warranty paid for new rotors, pads, calipers and labour.

My drivers side wheel hub, cv axle, and inner needle bearing went. Again, off roading. Missed seeing that last 4 foot deep washout and hit it at speed. All covered. I could have used new front teeth after that but they did not cover dental.

finally, my driver side heat seater failed. Warranty covered that as well. Toyota billed $1600 for just that repair, zero cost to me. I guess my ass is too big for the heater.

I am out of warranty now, but glad I had it as the repairs were far over the $2200 I paid. I believe the Toyota warranty at the time was $4K. That was mid 2018. My 2016 Taco was used, but had less than 10K (km) so was still eligible for warranty.

oh, forgot to mention, the shops see a shiny clean truck when I brought it in for the first 2 issues noted. Me - “don’t know what happened , just daily driving….”

1800 bucks seems quite reasonable for 125K miles. Are you fully confident the policy will cover most wear/tear items that might fail? I have never purchased an extended warranty.

I got an extended warranty through my credit union. It was in this price range. No deductible and covers everything.

Read the fine print, which is a LOT of detail. All warranties are different. Take it home or look online and then make your decision. Dealers usually give you some time to decide.

In my case, there were 3 levels of warranty and I bought the most expensive ($2200) as it pretty much covered everything. I was really surprised by how much was covered.

if you do not plan to have your truck past the warranty period and it is a transferrable warranty is a great selling point.

I traded in a car for my Taco and the car had 1.5 years of full warranty left on it. Helped that deal go smoothly.

Working in dealerships for over 10 years I can tell you buying an extended warranty on a brand new car isn’t the best idea. Mainly because it’s useless while the vehicle is under the factory warranty. You can purchase them pretty much at anytime under a certain mileage. So it’s best to wait until your factory warranty coverage is expired or about to before purchasing any extended warranty.

Bought a 2020 TRD Sport MT with 35,000 miles. Initially pulled the trigger on a $5000 extended warranty, went back two days later and canceled it. My thoughts, its either $5000 i am def spending, or $5000 I MIGHT spend. went with option two. Who knows... it may burn me in the end, but I am banking on some toyota quality

It’s the Toyota, Platinum, $0 deductible.
    Does it get any better?

But isn’t the pricing higher as compared to when new?

My thoughts were, better to have it and not need, than need and not have.

besides many repairs on these newer vehicles could easily exceed $1795.

Damn this guy still at it? I got the warranty for my FJ from him like 15 years ago...

Guess I should give him a ring and see what he can do for my Prius.

I thought I'd chime in for my experience. I adamantly refused the Platinum Vehicle Service Agreement ($4,500) for my Certified used taco when the salesman was preparing the paperwork, however when it went to the service writer, they offered the same agreement for $2,500, which I hesitantly took and may still cancel. Just throwing it out there that they do negotiate on the price for anyone considering it.

It's hit or miss with me if I spring for an extended warranty. Depends on price and how good of a deal I'm getting on the vehicle. For my Taco I did get a 7 year 100k. When they were pushing the warranty I politely denied it and said I'm tapped out already on how much I want to spend on this vehicle, that I wish I could help her out to make a commission on the warranty, but I'm tapped out. She left the office and came back and said If they would take the price of the warranty off the sale price of the vehicle would I bite? I said sure why not, but funny how you guys wouldn't go any lower on the sale price initially, but now you will......Go figure.

Depreciate like civics? not going to happen especially since they are doing away with the 3.5 V6 for a L4TT.

A little higher. However you’re also getting 5 years of coverage vs only the 2 years you’ll be able to use your extended warranty since it overlaps the 3 year basic warranty.
