Moles eat MOSTLY insects. Good critters in my book. But they eat earthworms as well.

Voles go after bulbs and tasty roots.

EDIT: I screwed that up earlier.

True, however the tunnels and trails they leave through your yard aren't very appealing, especially if you're trying to keep your lawn level. Moles are burrowers which will bore through the root layer of your grass whereas voles will create canyons or covered trails where the grass covers the canyon. They are both pests in my book but of the two, I'd rather have Voles over Moles.

    I get it.

Kinda funny, haven't looked for awhile but there are videos of people doing tunnels filled with _______________ (fill in the blank, combustible gas). Then BOOOOM! Some just earth flying, others with concrete lifted.

Back at the "crooked kitchen" for a couple of days after a 2+ week break. Wrapped up my work today. I had cut and fit all of the custom toe kicks and my customer stained/finished them to match the cabinets. Customer also stained/finished 3 white oak thresholds that I had milled up. Got the toe kicks, baseboard trim, some other miscellaneous trim pieces, thresholds and a couple of TV wall mounts installed. Only outstanding items are the range hood, sink/plumbing and countertops. Pretty pleased with how it all turned out. Customer is very happy. I got some additional work out of it. There's a 2 level deck on the rear of the house. I'll be replacing all of the railing components.

On the list for this spring is the back porch and we want to install horizontal cable railings. I will be doing the install ideally. Who has done these? Brands or websites to use in particular? Thanks!

I've done a few. Feeney is a well known brand. The last job I did was using RailFX. I feel RailFX makes a better product and all the hardware functioned correctly and was blemish free. You pay a premium for that though. You'll also pay a premium using 3/16 stainless cable vs 1/8. The 3/16 just looks better IMO.

    Are you using wood posts?

I used Muzata recessed hardware from Amazon. While it was less expensive it was tedious and time consuming to install. The end product looks great if you take your time but I have a lot of patience. I think the Cable Bullet hardware looks great and would be a much easier install but the cost can skyrocket depending on how much railing you need. I would suggest whatever you choose make a template to mark your mounting/holes locations. This will help ensure you have a uniform look when finished.

Yes we will use 4x4 cedar posts. There is an existing top railing in place that will have some work done to it but to meet the required distance between posts I will add cedar 4x4s. I will check out both brands!

I saw that Muzata brand came up a few times today on videos I watched. I did a bit of looking into them. I absolutely plan on a template!

My wallets anus hasn’t healed since the house purchase so why stop now?!
