If you are still interested they will most likely be ready tomorrow, possibly Friday if my new tires dont arrive in time to get mounted tomorrow. Discount Tire refused to fix my flat from yesterday claiming the tread was too low which is bullshit, any other shop would repair it. Of the remaining tires, 2 have a lot of tread, one is pretty low and one is balding from a bad control arm but holds air. I will accept payment in the form of a nice bottle of Rye.

out of curiosity…..what’s the minimum tread to fix a flat?

 

2/32 is the "legal minimum tread depth" and the guy said the lowest tread on my particular tire was 2/32 so by law he was allowed to repair it and still said he wouldn't. I could probably have gone down the street to another Discount Tire and gotten it repaired but I just said fuck it since my new shit shows up tomorrow.

My discount tire has a sign saying they wont patch a tire under 4/32" fwiw

 

Interesting, Discount doesnt even list a tread depth on their info page about tire repair. Probably a CYA thing.

There is a reason they offer free tire repair.
I bet half their sales come from "so... we cant patch it but lets look at what options there are for replacement"

Yeah its pretty obvious they are trying to upsell. I bounce between them and Tirerack for new tires. I would have gone through them but the tires I wanted were a week out from them versus next day from Tirerack. I still use them for install, at least until I get beadlock rings

Having work for DTC I can assure you that’s not what happens.

rule was 4/32 in early 2000’s also 10 years was the cutoff. I recently heard it was now 8.

 

My experience as a frequent customer as well. Recommended I replace my spare since the date code was 11 years ago on my 2002 (yes, I do maths, it was awhile ago) offered me a cheap spare replacement. Then @MR E30 had a spare to offer a bit ago, solved my issue again on the spare if I ever went into DT. I'm a fan of their service, and the Metro Center location is like 6 minutes from my office. Perhaps it's a location dependent thing, but usually the corporate rules dictate otherwise. I do decline the certs, as I have purchased 12 sets(4) of tires over the years from them, haven't ever used a warranty. I always tell the guy, "look at my history, I'm several tires ahead at this point" he usually agrees.

 

I still have (2) TRDOR rims with decent tires that people can have for free as spares.

 

What size are the tires by chance?

 

I'd be interested in one of those. Depending on the time I can pick up Friday but most likely saturday.
