Recent picture? I wondered if there were any landslides with all the rain that's been going on. Are you in Monterey now?

 

So fresh and so clean clean!

 

Slow day at work today, so it was going to be a day where I can run errands and GET STUFF DONE. It's also the first day that's sunny and relatively warm. Good day to get the Camaro out, dust it off and go for a drive, as it's been months since I drove it last because of weather.

I noticed the rear tire was low and needed some air. The rims I have use a recessed valve stem. Unscrew a cap that is flush with the surface and screw in a special valve stem. Problem is, it's so long it's close to the drum brake and the air nozzle won't fit. So I have to jack up the car and remove the tire whenever it needs air. PIA, but not a big deal.

So I air it up, put the tire back on and lower the car down. But then I hear a hissing sound. Crap. Inspected the tire and found a big staple in the sidewall, so jack it back up and remove the tire. Throw it in the truck and off I go to the tire shop to see if it can be fixed. Nope, can't patch the sidewall where it punctured so I need a new tire. I only have +/- 600 miles on it, so this just sucks. Also, they discontinued that model so I'll have a slightly different tire on the right rear that will cost me <$200. That just blew my whole morning and now I need to go work some, so no stuff done.

 

Yes, that was taken a couple of days ago. Highway 1 is closed, blocked by multiple slides. Southbound it's closed at Grimes Point, south of Big Sur. Northbound, it's closed at Ragged Point.

 

Did you drive up to the closure on Hwy 1 and turn around, or go over Nacimiento/Fergusson? I was in Monterey 2 weeks ago when the whole peninsula lost power (out for several days).

 

I drove down from the north, then went around on the 101, then back up from the south. I was going to drive the entire Highway 1 -- figured this was the best I could hope for.

For those who don't know, you can see Highway 1 in this photo -- easy to be taken out by landslides. And btw, an AWESOME drive, scenery is a 10+.
