Oh, if it's a Duramax, then yeah, they're really different. My dad has a Duramax, his regens are much less frequent and much faster than mine are in the PSD.

I don't think it's that. Same as what I posted before, Toyota looked at failing transmissions and saw they were 200k+ unserviced most likely, and said "okay, seal it up, thing's done at 200k". Probably seeing the same on rear diffs. Ford isn't seeing them serviced or brought in as the failure point up to whatever hundred k miles they allotted, so they said "Okidoki, seal it up!"

Much cheaper to get components without a drain and fill plugs in them, and makers are starting to set "expiry" dates on these things - sealed units, should last until we expect the vehicle to last to and then OH you need a new one now? Okay come on down and check out the all new Super Duper Maxy Traxy Foxy Woxy SPORT TRIM TRUCK!

I've seen this quite a bit on the big three axles. Some had drains in the housings but usually ended up being rusted shut.
I'd normally drop the spare, break all the bolts free, leave like 2 or 3 in it towards the top (backed off most of the way) and pry the bottom out and let it drain

Yeah, I don't have a lift unfortunately. I do see Red Line makes a full synthetic 75w-85 that isn't quite as expensive as the Motorcraft stuff. A friend needed to have the rear diff rebuilt on a 2016 he bought used. I think his has the 9.75 as well. It was kind of a saga for him. The dealer he bought it from kept telling him it was tire noise. He ended up having another Ford dealer look and within a half hour they came out to him and said the diff is bad - they pulled the cover and lots of metal shards and watery fluid came out. The selling dealer wanted him to take it back to them to have it rebuilt and he told them if they couldn't diagnose it in three tries he wasn't going to trust them to rebuild it. They ended up paying the second dealer to rebuild it.

How many front diffs do you see fail? Mine started humming faintly at around 40k. The dealer rebuilt it - looks like they reused the ring and pinion but did all new bearings and seals. It's been silent ever since and I'm up to 60k now. They acted like it was very unusual. I use 2H 90+% of the time. I know some people who use 4A all the time, but that seems pointless to me. So, it probably didn't have a whole lot of miles of actual power going through it.

I watched a video on it and that's exactly what was suggested - to allow the cover to stay hanging while the fluid drains.

I was cruising the hobby car department and found an unmolested 88 tbird with the 5.0, silver/maroon that is clean as fuck inside and pretty damn good outside. The GF offered to split it with me. Sigh.

If it is a real tbird, and you don't want it, please forward me the link.
Kind of on a "soft hunt" for an old tbird for her.. I need to hurry before she grabs another Charger while I'm at work one day....

Dialing an AR10. 5 round group w/ surplus ammo all touching after getting the scope dialed. Would have made one hole but I shanked two of them, the low lefts.

Does going to the Lexus plugs mean a different washer? Asking for a friend :anonymous:

Lots of fun when your emergency vehicle goes into regen in the middle of an emergency run. Not.

I didn't check what the original tacoma ones are vs the lexus but should always replace gasket/washer if removing and inserting plug.

Thanks, I suppose the next time I do mine (in 5K which for me now is at least a year) I'll get the Lexus p/n to be sure.

I changed the lawn tractor oil today, but can't get a John Deere or Kawasaki filter locally. Turns out it cross-references to a Corolla filter. Toyota OEM wasn't much more expensive than CarQuest, so why not!PXL_20230324_185743419.jpg

Can you actually tell? Most modern diesels don’t even tell you when they’re in regen and most drivers would never know from the driver’s seat. Just curious what it would hinder during an emergency run other than making the engine run on the hot side.
