well heres what i was told before i quit. first buy a few thing to work out with (laugh if ya want but it works) jump rope, treadmill, big stretchy rubber band things or even better something like a bowflex, whenever you get the urge to eat something drink water and do some kinda exercise, youll be amazed. it took my mind of food, and now i formed a good habit, its like a new religion for me and committed to it.

I quit about 10 years ago. I was up to 3 packs a day. Quit cold turkey and never had another one. When I first quit I had dreams about smoking and would wake up sweating. Tough habit to break. I also gained about 40 lbs when I first quit. Since then my weight has been like a roller coaster. At my age, I really need to start paying attention to what I eat, but I haven't yet. One thing at a time I guess.

You can do it! I smoked for 11 years and I quite cold turkey this summer, been 6 months now. I do still want one every now and then but it passes, also exercise definitely helps with the cravings and helps with the weight gain (luckily I didnt have any problems with that) I feel so much better and I smell so much better!!! Drinking doesn't help tho... you drink you want to smoke, thats how it was for me so uh I quit drinking too lol

    Hey, keep us posted.
My BF has been trying to quit for a year, he has been starting and stopping. He uses the Commit lozenges and is now addicted to those and has started cheating after 5 months without cheating and still using the same amount of lozenges :(. I told him to try Chantix, but he won't. I suggested patches and he says they are super $$?? I'd really like to help him, he says I don't understand cause I've never smoked.

Of all the things I have tried, the Commit Lozenges worked the best for me -- we'll see how Chantix is.

I've been up for 2.5 hours now and am doing OK. I've been holding a cinnamon stick in my hand to "replicate" a cigarette. I'm not really craving one, so that's good. I can, however, smell the smokers outside near my office window. Oh well -- it smells like crap anyway... :D

Thanks for all of the support from everybody. I'll keep you posted on my progress!

I started smoking in the service, the old "smoke em if you got em". For years I'd go back and forth with it.

Agree its very easy to pick up even with knowledge of how addicting it is, possible medical issues, smell, cost, can't smoke in bldgs, can't smoke in restaurants, can't smoke in bars (its the law here), higher insurance costs, all these factors but still light up!

Today I'm a non-smoker and that is the thought I keep fresh in my mind. If I just don't have that first cigarette, I won't become a smoker.

If I think a cig is a good idea, I think of all the reasons I listed above and have a non-smoking toolbox, like gum, flavored toothpicks made especially for quitting (sold in health food stores), a squeezy ball, post on TW, my ipod, call a friend, take my dog for a walk. The workout idea vtragweed is great too! Do some pushups!

You can become a non-smoker, visualize not smoking and succeeding with your goal, it works!

bone stock save for the block lift that came on it with the open country m/t.
my wife getting pregnant was the best thing that could have happened to me as far as smoking goes, not that I am condoning knocking someone up to quit smoking.:D:D:D I took the infamous zyban, it worked for me, and I know I don't want to look back. Lung cancer and COPD are not the way to go, they are slow, nasty, painful deaths my friend. I see it all the time, not cool. You can do it, you just have to WANT to do it. It's a tough vice to kick, good luck.

I quit smoking 13 years ago using Nicorette gum. I had smoked for over 20 years but decided enough was enough. It wasn't easy but it's worth it. You'll feel a lot better and your clothes, house, truck won't smell! Here's some incentive for you: Take the money you would have spent on cigarettes each week and put it into a savings account to be used for mods for your truck. Good luck and keep us posted. It will be tough over the holidays but you can do it if you have the will power! :)

Quit cold turkey after 12 years last year Memorial Day weekend. Haven't had one since and the hardest part was the 2 months after going cold turkey. It's all about the willpower. You have to want to quit and stick with it.
