From the post it sounds like the seized hinge took the metal with it

I'm actually shocked this post was so contentious. In this case, if I had the product for a long time, or mistreated it, or even actually used it more than a handful of times, I would probably be much more charitable. However this is a practically brand new item. Additionally, coupled with the fact of their ridiculous lead times, I ordered some lights and had to continuously hound them in order to get them to ship them to me, after waiting almost double their stated lead times. In short, almost no part of this process has been enjoyable in any way. I am beyond trying to get the vendor to do me right, that time has past, the goal now is letting everyone else know what to expect if they order from Relentless.

Yeah. Either welding made it brittle or it was flexing every time it was moved.

Either way, I'd be asking relentless to look at it, but I wouldn't be throwing them under the bus. Shit happens.

I think that's right, I ended up having to pound on the hinge with a hammer to get it off the pin.

It could have just been poorly lined up when welded (or the heat from welding pulled it) and the misalignment caused binding and metal fatigue.

For such a small failure it seems like you over reacted.

Hand made items are never perfect, now if you had it happen twice then you can get pissy.

That's how welds fail; the weld itself almost never breaks as it is normally stronger than the base metal itself.

Steel hinges work way better when you oil them.

Sure he came off really strong in this entire thread, but for many that have absolutely zero welding experience, it could seem like much more than a small failure.

Lol, why are you trying to pin this on me? Do you work for Relentless or something?

It's not the failure. Those happen. It's putting a business on blast before you even speak with them about the issue. If the OP spoke to Eric and was told him to fuck off I'd be in fulls support of public shaming. That never happened. lol

Alright, I'm bowing out, I've said my piece. Obviously a lot of folks disagree with me but hey, that's what discourse is about! Thanks for the advice, I gotta go see if I can salvage this thing and still get on the road tonight.

lol. I've specifically been trying to be fair. But facts are facts - steel rusts.

That's why I said the OP came off strongly; I don't agree at all with how he's handling this much less his pissy attitude.

Every part of dealing with Relentless was painful, from the ridiculous lead times that were double or triple what they stated from the constant badgering to get them to ship stuff to me. I've gone through 2 orders with them and both left a bad taste in my mouth. Why should I expect better service now?

I'm not saying you should. Just that the approach you chose isn't the best. You seem to be thinking of this as a PSA. In truth most of us see it as a pissed off guy who never contacted the company he's publicly flogging about the issue.

Point taken, unfortunately there's no delete thread option so I guess it's up here for posterity.
