Yeah I think it's a mis fire too. How many miles? I'd bet the coil packs are in need of replacement. They are almost 30 years old haha

Check the spark plugs while you're at it.

Im pretty sure i replaced the distributor like...8? 9? years ago when it was leaking oil lol. But ill do all of it if we think thats a worthwhile route to take!

 

Worse case is you end up with a refreshed ignition system ready for ten more years. While I don't like shotgunning parts at a problem, it is cheap enough to do to eliminate it, and better isolate where the issue is.

 

i dont mind shotgunning parts at the truck, as im sure it needs it anyway, if it avoids dropping the transmission

sounds like trans/torque converter to me. What gear are you in when it shudders the worst? Does it do it under hard acceleration?

 

first. if im at a stand still and mash on the gas i can usually get it to do it, but it will do this shudder in first, maaaaybe going to 2nd, but past 20 it wont do it

 

I have a spare 3RZ distributor if you don't necessarily want to Wing $300 on a reman one...
