On my 2nd gen there is an extended support that is mounted to a crossmember, so it doesn’t bend the skid plate at all. It is fully supported at that spot. I would assume it is the same on the 3rd gen.

You'll have to confirm, but it's exactly as Jason said on the 2nd gens. The jack point that's accessible through the stock sheet metal skids is indicated by the small hole in the Lostar skid. I just toss a block of wood on the jack cradle and have no problem lifting the truck by the skid plate, since it is basically touching the jack point to begin with. Also, it held the truck up on some rocks the other day.

Yep, I see right where the jack point is. I was just wondering if anyone actually used the jack point on the Lostar skid plate. Thank You.

These are all great inputs and reviews. Not trying to hijack this thread but does anyone know if the oem plate or lostar plate will have issues with millercat shield as far as placements goes?

So I have the LoStar skid plate. Installed it myself about a year ago. Was a pain the arse but it went on without issue. About 6 months ago I got new tires and went on an over road trip a few weeks later. Halfway thru the trip I started noticing a "clunk" when coming to a slow stop or slow start.

I brought it to my mechanic who did my suspension upgrade as I was sure the clunk was from that. Nope. It is the LoStar skid plate. It was rubbing against the front jack point. He added a few spacers to give it clearance. Thing is I never hit anything with it. I don't know what changed to make it now rub other than "settling" of some sort (?) or the tire place jacked it up at that point and caused it to rub. The timing is pretty close to when I started noticing it.

Is that the intent of the TRD Pro Skid plate, that you can still use that jack point? I assumed that with the slid plate on there you essentially gave up use of the as a jack point.

I would watch some youtube videos to see if anyone encountered an issue. I have a the talon's shield and it works with the LoStar no issues but I just looked at the Miller Cat and the way it installs at that point appears to be very different than Talon's.

Glad you noticed something. After some good hits off road I've got a slight clunk up front as well. Checked the suspension and didn't find anything so I'll look here next.

It looks to me like the jack point is still supposed to be used as a small hole is drilled on mine, indicating where the lifting point should be. I didn't think there was enough clearance there to deform the aluminum prior to it flexing into the steel and making a solid lift point.

I've used that point to lift the truck a few times now and so far so good. I remember installing the skid plate and the spacers were not in the right spots to start with. It took awhile to figure out where the short, medium and long spacers went. Maybe those were mixed up?

I have also ran a jack directly onto the skid (at the jack point). No issues.

I put on the Lostar version this weekend. Quality seems great although the packaging was horrendous so it had a few scratches right out of the box.

Nice find... My 23 TRD Off Road came with a Skid Plate but it looks like it was made out of the same metal they skin a refrigerator with. Figured I'll run it until it gets a good ding in it and then replace it. Shouldn't take too long with this one.

I see online that this skid (and a lot of other non-oem) put in BOLD that it is only for TRD Pro and Off Road. I have a TRD Sport... I can't imagine there is any difference but has anyone put this skid on a sport?? Thanks...

I am not 100% positive but I believe you will need to take off the air dam to get it installed and you will not be able to put the air dam back on. So if you can live without it you can use the TRD Pro skid plate or similar knock-offs.

I am.intereated in getting one of these just for ease of oil changes. Does it give you easy access to the filter and oil pan?
