Toyota highlander just got a turbo 4 cy. C&D says engine sounds weak for anything besides normal driving. Same engine going in Tacoma?

There isn't. But a turbo/supercharger can get a good mix of mileage and performance in a smaller, eco friendly package. It is all about meeting .gov regulations now, and that example you gave was common for the smogger era of automotive engines, and certainly not representative of unfettered big inch motors.

Drove a rental highlander with the 2.4 turbo for like 10 minutes. Sounds like ass as you'd expect from a 4cyl but there's some decent pep, get up and go on the lower rpms. Feels kinda like when the 3.5 in our trucks finally wakes up and moves once tpm hits 4k, it just floats away but obviously the 2.4 does all that at lower rpms.

I hope you are right. My Colorado Z71 is being built next week...I still have time to walk away from it.

2.7 Turbo moves a full size F-150 really well from what I hear. A 2.4T, especially one with the hybrid, should be really impressive in a 1000 lbs lighter truck like a Taco.

I think the Ford 2.7-T is a small V6, but am sure the 2.4-T Tacoma will feel fine too.

There is currently no CARB executive order certifying a 2024 Toyota of any kind in Kalifornia.

Probably the same two options for engines in the Tacoma as in the Highlander.

The A25A - FXS is the 2.5 L that runs the "Atkinson cycle" all the time, has a rating of around 180 HP and is usually offered in a hybrid to get to around 240 HP total power. In the "FKS" trim it puts out around 200 HP and uses the same modified "Atkinson/Otto" cycle we have now in the 3.5L. Could see the latter one being offered on some Tacoma models, but I also wouldn't be surprised to see the 2.5 L available only as a Hybrid, same as is done with the Highlander (in Canada anyway). That would definitely bring down the average fleet fuel consumption.

The T24A is the turbo 2.4 L (which might be our only hope for a manual, BTW) also found in the Grand Highlander and elsewhere. It's around 260-270 HP by itself, but if they gave the option of the Hybrid Max, that jumps to around 360 HP, with over 400 lb-ft of torque, which is competitive with the higher-level trims from the competition. Could see that being the combination of choice for the TRD Pro. (Pro-Max?)

My brain tells me that the 2.5L hybrid with either 2WD or AWD is probably the best option for most of us, and Toyota are making good choices, but my heart (and ears) like my 4x4 3.5 L with the TRD intake and exhaust. It's not always about logic.

I would like to see it with turbo and hybrid 4 cylinder. but like the Highlander --I bet the don't use turbo with hybrid like with the new Highlander--just the NA 4cy with hybrid.

:anonymous:The only reason anyone is saying that, is thanks to one cooperative YouTuber in Independence Overland, exclusively benefitting from the private insight I am sharing with him.
I love watching the rest of YouTube and the media, struggle to figure out when the press release is and much more, because I made sure of it only one of them knows the truth.

Since January I have been very quiet, but a number of users have been passing on information I share with them privately on this front thankfully.

The 2.7 EB is a really nice engine. Buddy had one and it ran circles around my Tacoma.

I wouldn't mind having one in a single cab long or short bed or a supercab 145" wheel base.

Walk away now. I drove and put money down on the Colorado ZR2 , then walked away once I discovered the roof wasn’t tapped for an OEM rack along with less storage options.

Not so sure there will be a new 4R. There definitely won't be one until the new Tacoma is sorted out even if Toyota has a new 4R on paper resting on the back burner. Financialy that wouldn't make sense until 4G Tacoma is a proven contender. I've said this so many times, Toyota could market the DCSB as a 4R or 4R trim and it would do very well. Between that and Toyota's other SUV line up, there's plenty of options for the Toyota loyalist who would buy a 4R.

Most 4R buyers would probably rather gave more room Sequioa. The other end of buyers would probably rather have a more car like ride Highlander and Rav4. Who ever else would rather stay in the segment and could make use of the bed Tacoma with the 4link.

I'm pretty sure with out going back to look. LC300 was the 1st TNGA-F product from Toyota, yeah it's a world vehicle but not sold in NA except at Lexus. No sales leader over at L, never was never will be. LC 300 was more important than 3G Tundra to Toyota. If 4R was more important to Toyota it would have been out before 4G Tacoma.

Yes, some of it is due to government regulations on emissions and MPG (for good reason). But mostly it's about customer demand. Buyers want more power, better torque curve, and better mileage. The off-road focused TW crowd might disagree, but Toyota didn't become one of the best selling car manufacturers on the planet for no reason.... They know what the public wants.
