Actually I thought it was 4K psi because I figured the red numbers were 1/10 of the actual reading - so it should have been 4000 instead of 400, but on the bottom it says 400 PSI. Did they sell me a gauge that only handles 400 PSI!? I know if I put it on, it’s my fault for not looking at the numbers but holy sh!t why do they have a low pressure gauge on their aisles?

Another member will be driving down and dropping off a SWAG press brake kit (not free, I'm buying it) so that'll come in handy for anything I'll need bending.

Was going to ask if that was for oxygen, but even oxygen regulators allow for a pretty high pressure gauge.

My gas gauge shows a max of 4k psi from the tank -

You defiantly have too small of a gauge.

That's a 2800 kilopascal gauge The same as a 400 psi. Waaaay too small. That's why she blew.

On the plus side you did help us all too double check the units.

Thank you for starting this topic.

reminds me of the time i messed up resistor sizing, and connected an LED straight to 120v with the wrong resistor. blew the face off the LED quite violently!

Because there are many applications for a 400 psi gauge.

Hate to say it, but this one is on you for thinking the reading was anything other than what was written on the guage. I have done it too, so dont feel too bad, but there are many gauges for many different applications, so always double check ... good lesson learned.

i'd call that a 'european' gauge considering kpa is the outer ring. imo, the inner ring is for the lesser-used measurement scale on any gauge.

Yeah a bunch of gauges of different ratings were in the Amazon search I did this evening.

To add to the overlook I did, I had ordered another primary gauge for an old regulator on my last welder that the gauge hadn't read the right pressure for awhile and when I installed the new gauge, it didn't read the proper pressure as well. This time when it pegged the needle, I guessed it was the curse of the replacement gauge not working that an old witch had hexed me with happening again :notsure: Obviously the sample size of one non-working replacement gauge wasn't enough to base any empirical investigation on, but it was all I had to go on from my knowledge of these things. I also made a mistake in my assuming that the kid at the welding shop knew more than he did - I just assumed he knew more than me (which doesn't happen if I know something about what I'm buying, but I didn't lol).

Well at least I feel comfortable just getting a new gauge and not going overboard and getting a whole new regulator or bottle. Now, replacing my gauge with a 3k, 4k or 5k max pressure one? Any bets on what pressure's left in the bottle when I get the new one plugged in haha

Regulators are cheap, just get one for 4-5k psi as that'll be suitable for CO2 or 75/25.

New bottle wouldn't be necessary as we saw you just had the wrong regulator.

Yeah before seeing the pressure rating, I wasn't sure what had been the case with a new larger bottle and a new gauge I was a little curious if it was one or the other or a combination of both. I'll just replace the primary gauge - not the whole regulator.

Decided to build my own plasma table using the jd's garage plans. Didn't want to coin up for the crossfire pro. They seem to be buggy too so might as well learn from scratch. I will be scaling it to make it to be supported on both ends.

Anyone here use their plans to get going before?

Crossfire Pro isn't buggy; the issues related to the Pro (and non-Pro) stem from users buying into it and expecting a plug-and-play solution.

Yes it offers that, but it's not the sort of tool where you just plug it in and it's all set where all the settings are provided for you.

Think of it as a welder; you can't just turn it on and weld (correctly). You'll need to run it a bit to figure out your wirespewd and voltage, paired with your travel speeds and technique.

With a CNC table, or even just the plasma cutter, you'll need to figure out your kerf width first and foremost. Followed by cutting different thickness material to get the cleanest cuts with no dross. You've got torch heights (actual, not programmed) as well as current and air pressure to figure out, and cut speeds.

Where you start your cuts are important too.

You also have lead ins and outs which will effect going into a cut, as well as leaving a cut. I don't have a press brake so I incorporate relief cuts in my pieces to make it easier to bend.

I'm new to all of this, but I'd like to think I have a pretty good grasp of the whole thing. I've been making parts for a local shop, not to mention already having served quite a few members on TW as well as a local Yota FB group and I run the regular Crossfire XL.

Would've gone with the Pro but I have a tiny garage -

Yep you installed a 400PSI gauge on a high pressure cylinder!!

Both you and the counter person must not have looked real close.

Great layout. I am always looking for ideas to tinker. The vice table is great. What is sitting to the right of it in the pic?

What JD plans are you referring to?

I built my own table from the ground up. I had no plans to work from.

I'd like to review them and see if they are a decent set of prints.

Are these the plans you referred to?

I like the table for simplicity. I don't know if I'd want to use what they suggest for stepper motors or the Arduino control software.

I'm using Mach3. It works very well, since it was designed for CNC work.
