Will you admit you were wrong when the new 4Runner comes out?

Aside from the "variable compression" engines, I would 100% trust a Nissan engine. They know what they're doing.
Direct injection is here to stay. It's proven technology. Cleaning valves is really not a huge deal, especially once all the independent shops are doing.

Sure my existence is not based upon Toyota's line up. I'm fairly certain I have said before I'm not 100% certain of my opinion. I won't be surprised if Toyota drops the 4R or releases a 6th gen 4R. Toyota has ample reason to continue with a new gen or cancel. Can't really be wrong with saying that, and I have already said that before.

I wouldn't mind seeing something with a fold down mid gate and removable hard top based on the 4G Tacoma. Like the original 4Runner.

I still want to see if Toyota refers to the new Tacoma as a 3rd gen or 4th gen.

It's not like Toyota is selling a lot of 4Runners.
    https://carfigures.com/us-market-brand/toyota/4runner

121,023 That's the number of units Toyota sold for all of 2022. No matter the reason for those numbers Toyota has to be closely evaluating if they should invest in a new model.

Toyota moves production to Mexico from Japan and 6G 4Runner is built as an SUV clone on the ne Tacoma platform. Those sales numbers become more lucrative to Toyota. They can also increase their production numbers.

The biggest deciding factor will come from external market forces effecting new car sales. Which isn't looking good for manufacturers at this moment in time.

The best way I can describe the 4Runners fate is fluid. :jpow:

The Platform and parts sharing will greatly reduce their investment in the next 4R, can definitely see production moving to Mexico also.

4Runner will become less expensive to build and export. Which will be it's greatest life line.

Will Toyota allow 4R to cut into Tacoma sales? Most likely higher profit margin for the same price. Down side if 4R cuts in to Tacoma production. Toyota will build less Tacomas which will keep the price up. Look at Ford with their Bronco Ranger debacle, Toyota will have to plants to keep their numbers up but They sell many more Tacomas than Ford does Rangers.

JDM fans might not be excited about the shift in production, and I'm not thrilled about the idea either.

What kind of MPG are you hoping for? Or were wanting?

How did you find one to drive if the ZR2 hasn’t even left the factory yet?

I read something the other day that they have thousands of Colorado and Canyon models built and just sitting around waiting for some kind of approval, but they have started shipping the base models.

EPA holding things back of course. I see that all engines have been certified. AT4’s are coming in at 17/20 according to an en route window sticker. If it actually achieves this it will be good for GM I believe. Considering the same Tacoma will yield 14-16 mpg.

Not worse than the outgoing V6, but the only video to have since been removed because it broke the media embargo showed 23mpg for a Canyon.

Yeah I'd like to see the next generation of midsizers move the needle a bit in the right direction myself. I have a had time justifying the same MPG's I get now. I was cruising some Twins forum and there were people there commenting about the MPG in a less than positive way.

Midsize trucks are getting full size numbers because their size has exploded. I’ve been debating getting a full-size AT4 6.2L instead.

I don't understand the same 2.7T getting lower MPG's in the Twins than it does in the half ton though.

I've never driven a 6.2, but I loved my 6liter. I'm 100% positive the 6.2 is great though, at least .2 better lol.

I haven’t seen worse, but similar. I don’t think anyone has a mid or high output option yet, either.

6.2 can get above 20 on 87 at highway speed. I’m going to leave my order in but keep an eye on deals for outgoing 23 AT4s.

I was wondering what the fullsize 2.7 were getting compared to the midsize. They sit lower and probably have better aerodynamics which get them a better rating. Factor in they are averaging single cab RWDs they are lighter trucks.

    I'd get a AT4x if I was into expensive 1/2 tons.

My 6 liter lived at 12 MPG. highway, in town whatever, didn't matter. Only dropped to 11 MPG when towing a 1/2 ton Dodge on a Uhaul tandem axle once.

My truck was a loaded work truck though, average user MPG will be better than mine. Heck, my taco loaded down as a work truck only gets about 14 MPG for example.

My dad recently got 20.4 going to Dallas and back in his 2020 6.2 (400 miles). Makes me angry the Tacoma is terrible. But at least he has more power, tows more, and is roomier! But I have a stick and therefore I win
