It could be worse. Imagine if Canada got MT DCLB? Might be enough to get me to move and pay the $1M beer tax stuff.

Someone bring up heel toe? My favorite topic! Pedal sizes & placements make the Tacoma very unfriendly for conventional heel toe technique.

I've been using the Ricky Rudd techique of placing the heel on the brake & blipping the throttle with my toes. Doable, but it has never become a conditioned response. I gotta think about it everytime. Too many years doing the conventional method to make the newer technique instinctive.

I purchased Sparco's 03779an. This should lengthen the gas pedal & place it close enough to the brake for me to use my normal method. Just gotta find some time to install.

I watch a few Canadian, Australian and Kiwi prospectors on you tube and everything is inches, feet, pounds and gallons until they get in a car and then it's kilometers.
    Kinda funny!

Why would we? We're the ones who feel the temperature, if it was a lab then we would use metric. Since it's temperature, the vast majority of humans exist within the temperature range of 0 to 100° Fahrenheit, and since our math is all base 10, it makes sense to leave it in Fahrenheit. Plus, it's a more precise temperature scale since the degree differences are smaller than Celsius.

In a lab, we would use metric. In space, we use Kelvin.

    Itz JDM tyte, yo!
I can manage to heel toe my '22 Tacoma whenever I'm wearing Vans or other similar flat sole shoes. It's very hard to do whenever I have my boots on. I did use the technique of having my toes on the brake pedal and rotate about my toes to blip the gas pedal with my heel.

That being said the 3rd gen Tacoma isn't the most heel toe friendly, but it's not a sports car.

It..... Doesn't need heel toe to drive like a sports car.

I get that I'm in the minority here but I can rocket mine around town like a go-kart without doing heel toe. It's about letting off the gas slightly earlier and then revving as you shift to get it matched into low gear before you hit the turn. I've had people tell me that's dumb and I've had people tell me it's brilliant. At the end of the day I'm never the last guy to the ice cream shop.

Im trying not to be single minded, but this issue is starting to ruin what is otherwise a great truck. I’ve tried looking into the steel fj pedal, it but seems like the upper portion of the pedal really doesn’t offer additional room, which has left me to wonder if the steel pedal could be bent in such a way to offer more clearance, but I don’t know if that different angle would have an impact on the master cylinder. Lot of unknowns here, and could throw money at it and make it worse.

I don’t want to do anything to void warranty since it only has 1k miles. Hate to resort to it, but resale is so high it would be easy to swap to an AT, but I hated the AT in my 17, so I might just have to look at other mid size offering if this doesn’t work out.

I've always liked to drive barefoot and am usually in flip flops anyway. That gives me a lot more places to tuck a foot. Also, it gives me better feel of the Taco clutch that has very little feel to start with.

There are lots of options for you though:

-- If you're not shifting for a while, you could put your foot under the pedal. I do that a lot to stretch out when needed.

-- Another option is that the dead pedal is just a lump of closed cell foam that is easy to remove. You could reshape the rear surface until you find a better position.

-- And, finally. There is almost no warranty on the clutch. It is typically looked at as a wear item for most parts of it. Yeah, there is an old TSB for clutch pedal noise, but you have the latest parts. I would not fear the FJ pedal while under warranty. If it is going to make you comfortable, I would jump in with both feet. It is a direct swap.

See @ShirtTucker 's posts in the ADM thread for his install.

I would possibly try adding a pad to the dead pedal that both moves your foot back and your toes up. I expect that after a short while with the pad it will feel natural and it will also get your toes up and away from the arm.

I appreciate the advice and suggestions. Driving barefoot, while not always practical, largely resolves the issue. I think a thicker tennis shoe just puts the bottom of your foot right in like with pedal (leaving no room).

I’m with you on the dead pedal. I actually took out the kick plate and carpet yesterday to see how difficult it would be to cut in half/reshape to get my shoe more under the pedal. The only issue, which probably somewhat minor (but irreversible) is the carpet would likely need to be cut to match whatever changes were made to the dead pedal. It’s very stiff molded in that shape and probably would try and stay that way.

I been following the dead peddle discussion here...I don't seem to comprehend the issue, and not looking for further explanation

I do like to propose solutions. Convert the dead peddle to Ti

This would be easier that cutting it back, but with my average height, I already have to sit a little closer to fully depress the clutch, so not ideal for comfort. I’m going to see if there’s a good way to cut it back without needing to ruin the carpet.

    ti?

I think I can briefly sum it up, even though you didn’t need an explanation ;). I think it’s because Im shorter, which puts my foot further up the well in a relaxed position. Since this pedal is chunky plastic, there’s not a lot of room towards the top, and the dead pedal puts your foot in the same line as the pedal assembly, which means I’m constantly hitting the kick plate or the pedal.

I’ve been driving manuals for 25 years and never had this issue, so it’s a weird thing.

I feel like 1st gear in the 3rd gen is fine, its when you go into 2nd it falls on its face. Especially when the defrost or A/C is on.

    How tall? Inseam?

I'm guessing you have patterned yourself to stretch your left leg out (we all find our own pattern). Personally I rest my left foot more flat on the floor. Not the advice you want but maybe see if you can adjust how you sit to see if you can change yourself.
