Four years in a Tacoma, a frustrating experience

I can speak on the 2019 but I’m right at 6’ and athletic and my 21 is quite comfortable with the seat lowered with the front pitched like a bucket seat. I recently hauled a ton of 1/4 minus for a patch of artificial turf for a buddy of mine and it was not a fun experience…even despite splitting the load in two runs…but these trucks honestly aren’t built for that. Toyota knows their general market, they know that a majority of their Tacomas will either be modded to hell, driven around a city or town, or used as a fleet truck for pest control/hvac/pool cleaning/pooper scoopers/etc. I am quite disappointed as well with the power train in these trucks from the engine to the gearing…very lackluster. And I never use my cruis control for the exact reasons you stated. Despite all of my complaints, I still love my truck. I will be doing a tune and changing gears and so on…but I still love this truck. It suits my needs for now. But I will need a full-size at some point lol

 

The ‘19 seat doesn’t adjust like that, unfortunately.

Neither did my 2017. One of the reasons I sold it.

 

Mostly replies about bigger trucks and torso length...interesting.

Initially, I wanted the "Tundy" but my wife talked me out of it. I sat in an SR Tundra and thought to myself, this is over-the-top.

Everything about it screamed "Ginormous". And when I read about the tank size, (not even considering MPGs) that turned me off even more.

As a daily "street" driver, the TRD Sport suited my needs.

Now, if I was a Haulin' type person and knew how much power I needed, I wouldn't have thought twice about the Tundy.

I'm just glad my wife did not talk me out of buying a truck! lol

 

I personally think the TRD trims are just a bunch of flashy gadgets. The only reason I have a TRD sport is because the dealer knocked the price down to an sr5 because he didn’t have any other DCLBs on the lot and I wanted the long bed and I have kids lmao

 

The only thing I wish the sport came with is a locker in the rear. Other than that and the aforementioned drive train complaints, I love my sport

 

I had a 2019 Tundra before my Tacoma. Loved it, and when I bought it I was planning on passengers and pulling a 20-22 foot camping trailer. After a little over 3 years I could count on one hand the number of times anyone rode in the back seat, and I had shifted to RTT camping with nothing to tow but a RZR. Downsized to the Tacoma and I regret nothing yet.

 

The TRDs make plug-n-play easier for add-ons that should be standard...like:

OEM LED Headlights (Well...maybe not this...it's $480 if Mfg install)
Bed Lights
Fog Lights

But, I was already committed to a threshold of $40K for my first new Toyota truck.

I'm retired active duty AF so I feel I deserved it.

 

I also have a 2019 OR, but unlike the OP and many others here, I just do not put that much thought into what I like and do not like about the truck. I've been a Toyota guy all my life, so buying my current Taco was a no brainer for me. I basically expect my truck to start, stop, keep me comfy / safe, and reliably get me where I need to go on or off road (so far so good here!). I also expect it to last a reasonable amount of trouble free miles before needing repairs (again, so far so good and fingers crossed!).

PS: disappointments are primarily fueled by expectations.

 

I like my flashy gadgets.


I also ran down my beat to crap dirt road at 70 MPH for the first time last week. Definitely like the suspension for being stupid like that.

 

i hated mine until i installed front seat jackers. i'm 6'3". it doesn't raise your head height at all.

 

I’ve done that in my sport too hahaha definitely can’t wait to upgrade my suspension

This sounds like me! I like gadgets too. Though I probably would have pushed 70 on the dirt road on day 1 of owning the truck
I have been known to push the limits every now and then

 

That was the first time I did it, but I've had the truck since Black Friday and it's just over 5k miles. I wouldn't do that to a new truck, and I'm not likely to do it more than a handful of times anyway. I just wanted to see if it was really as good as they say.

 

The night I drove mine home was the first clear night after a bunch of rain…she was muddy before the tires ever touched my driveway.

I call bs on this rant. I tow 5500 easily, flat terrain.
1100 lbs like 5 adults in the bed and it doesn't have the power ? Come on.
