Saved for Decked Drawer System

 

This was a few weeks back but finally got around to installing the Archive Garage Hammer Hangers, High Clearance Crosstube and upgraded to the Deaver Stage 3 Expedition Leaf Springs from the Deaver Stage 2s. Also chopped up the stock exhaust so it tucks up above the bumper.

 

Switched to the BF Goodrich KM3 35x12.5r17 from the Cooper Discoverer STT Pro 285/70r17

Had a lot of stuff done to the truck since May and I haven't been active but I'll be posting all the upgrades since.

9 Year Ceramic Coat done while I was away on a trip, re-installed the roof rack, got ceramic tint all the way around, finally installed the Baja Designs XL Linkable Light Bar (also ceramic coated), and got the KDMax Pro+XT tune done by Chris.

 

July/August

Went fishing with some friends one weekend
had a bbq get together / night beach run with another group of friends another weekend,
then swapped out the 650lb/in springs to 700lb/in springs, installed the new spindle gussets, and stoptech 6 piston big brake kit with a buddy. Also some trimming on the fenders

Did some maintenance, painted the rear drum brakes, installed the redline tuning max lift hood struts that have been sitting in my garage for over 8 months, cascadia4x4 flipster license plate mount and went wheeling with some friends at Hidden Falls Adventure Park in Marble Falls, TX, and post trip cleaning.

 

Beautiful truck!

 

Post trail damages:

Slid into a tree on the passenger front fender and passenger rear bedside, luckily only scratches. Scratches on the skids, bumpers and rock sliders that I painted over.

What paint did you use on the drums? Seems like it worked great.

September 2022 (cont.)

2 days before my trip to Montana, I found out the truck was leaking brake fluid from the passenger rear drum brake and found out that something was loose and bent shoes and backing plate. Had a buddy overnight some parts so I could leave for my trip 2 days later.





Good as new!

How do you like the gfc so far?

 

loving it so far, mattress is on the firmer side (similar to the iKamper Sky Camp Mini mattress) so I added a 1" foam topper on top of the 2" foam they have. Wish the actual tent fabric had a different design that incorporated an awning and a clear plastic window flap for rainy weather so I can still see outside but they've said they're going to work on it in the future and should be able to fit the current v2 camper if I pay to upgrade later on (I think). I've done some work on it and have some more lined up to fit my needs. It's got its downsides but overall a great product and serves the purpose I use it for.

Lots of hate online since it falls short on the "camper" side of the spectrum compared the SuperPacific, AT Habitat or the Alu-Cab. So if you're looking for a camper with more "camper" attributes then I'd explore those options. The GFC is the "cheapest" option from the ones I listed (starting at $7700 Up to $9125) and its really a camper shell connected to a roof top tent in the most basic sense and that what its really advertised as. I drove to Montana to pick up mine but they've opened up more install locations in California, Colorado, Texas and I think North Carolina and Missouri but the locations outside of their Montana location has shipping costs that increase as you get further away from their HQ.

 

Great info! I’ve been on the fence as far as the gfc. I’m even debating a rsi smart cap with roof top tent setup. We will see. Thanks again and sweet truck!

 

I actually had an RSI Smart Cap on order from Offroad Alliance cause I was planning to keep my iKamper. I waited 11 months since my cap was stuck at port and I needed it for a big trip so ended canceling that and got the GFC. GFC had a 6 week lead time and I liked it enough when I saw my buddy's. In terms of looks, the GFC will be sleeker than a smart cap with an RTT and having the option to enter from the truck bed is something I didn't know I wanted/appreciated until I camped in 14-30deg weather multiple times. RSI does have those door bins that would be useful and I'm probably gonna build something like that on the passenger side.
